Olean Call Center to Cut Up to 147 Jobs

Buffalo, NY, USA, Oct 19, 2016 -- An Olean call center has warned it could lay off as many as 147 employees in January, but hopes the number of cuts will ultimately be lower.

The Connection notified the state Labor Department the cuts would take effect Jan. 8, citing the loss of a contract with an unspecified customer.

Karen Danielson, director of marketing for the Minnesota-based company, said the call center will remain open despite the layoffs.

"We are working as diligently as possible to retain as many positions as we can out of the 147 employees notified in our Olean location and do not expect that all of the notified employees will exit the company," she said. "We are actively working to reassign as many employees internally as possible."

Jan. 8 will be the last day of work for employees whom the Connection is unable to place into new jobs, Danielson said. But as new jobs come available at the center after that date, previous employees will be eligible for rehire.

To help employees find new positions, the Connection is hosting a resume-building workshop, an event about interviewing skills, and an onsite job fair prior to Jan. 8.

The Wayne Street call center opened in 2008.
