El Paso, TX, USA, June, 2017 -- A corporate meeting turned into a major community-service event as scores of DATAMARK employees worked together to assemble 25 new bicycles destined for children residing in a Central El Paso neighborhood.
DATAMARK, headquartered in Downtown El Paso, is a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Contact Center Services company with service delivery centers in the U.S., Mexico, and India.
For the company’s semi-annual corporate meeting in March, approximately 100 DATAMARK employees gathered at the EPIC Railyard Event Center in Downtown El Paso to share the latest news about company operations. The day-long event also included a team-building activity, where employees organized into small groups and assembled 25 new bicycles that were donated to Ciudad Nueva, an El Paso-based nonprofit community outreach organization.
Ciudad Nueva offers services for residents in and around the Rio Grande Historic District in Central El Paso, where large number of families live in poverty and have children who are at risk of not completing high school. Ciudad Nueva aims to strengthen the community through several programs, including after- school activities focused on the creative arts and sports; a support network for families in crisis; and leadership development for young people.
The bicycles donated by DATAMARK will be used in Ciudad Nueva’s Launch Pad program that teaches youngsters the life skills of financial literacy, budgeting and banking. When children complete their daily activities, they earn "Launch Pad Bucks." The children are encouraged to save their "money" and earn interest on it throughout the year. When they have saved up enough Launch Pad Bucks, the children can buy a bicycle or another donated item stocked in the Launch Pad Store.
"The program teaches children the responsibilities and benefits of saving, sharing, and spending," said DATAMARK Administrative Support Manager, Michelle Hayes, who serves on the Ciudad Nueva board of directors. "Our DATAMARK employees had a great time working together to assemble the children’s bicycles. It’s going to be great to see the kids enjoying their new bikes!"
