500 Jobs Up for Grabs in Sunderland

Jan 24, 2012 -- Hundreds of jobs are up for grabs in Sunderland.

Employers from across Wearside will be looking to fill more than 500 vacancies at the Contact Centre Recruitment Day tomorrow, to be held at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens.

The event, organised by Sunderland City Council and sponsored by npower, will give jobseekers the chance to find out about potential career opportunities in one of the city’s biggest sectors, employing about 10,000 people.

Representatives from contact centre firms including npower, Barclays, Fusion, and NRAM, will all be there.

Council leader Paul Watson said: "Recruitment events are increasingly rare these days, and it’s great to see our 12th contact centre event taking place.

"Last year, 750 people visited it, and we hope anyone who is out of work or looking to change career comes along to find out what opportunities exist for them in this resilient industry."

He added: "Sunderland is one of the leading locations in the world for contact centre companies, and our profile continues to grow thanks to the talented, adaptable workforce of our city who help each of these companies to succeed."

Contact centres pump millions a year into Wearside’s economy, and have continued to thrive despite the ups and downs of the economic cycle.

Visitors to tomorrow’s event will be able to have an informal chat with contact centre staff to find out what roles are available, and discover if their skills match the vacancies on offer.

Training provider Contact Centre Professional will also be on hand to support those who need training in preparation for a career in the sector.

Npower’s Michelle Thomas said: "npower is one of the largest contact centres in the North East, and we are looking for 350 customer services advisors to join our team due to increased demand from our customers.

"We are looking for reliable people who have amazing customer service skills and a great personality. Npower has opportunities for progression and we provide you with fantastic training and coaching.

"Why not come along and see us for more information and a chat with a member of our team?"
