United Kingdom - March 18, 2008 - The Managing Director of Ipswich call transfer agency Call Connection, Graeme Kalbraier, has been awarded a special ‘Highly Commended’ accolade in the search to find ‘Britain’s Best Boss’.
Over 350 bosses were entered in the nationwide competition, with only 14 being selected for interview, and seven short-listed. This is the first time the special ‘Highly Commended’ award has been given out.
Mr. Kalbraier, who established the company in June 2003, was recognised in acknowledgement of his inspiration and encouragement, and his ‘open door’ approach to managing his team. He has also taken a forward-thinking approach to Equal Opportunities, offering flexibility and extra support to staff with special needs.
On hearing of his highly commended award, Graeme commented: "I was honoured to have been nominated for this award in the first place, but to be singled out and given a special ‘Highly Commended’ award is just fantastic. It is our policy to reward and incentivise the employees who work so hard to make Call Connection a successful company. We do all we can to make sure they look forward to coming into work."
As one of the country’s four top bosses, Mr. Kalbraier was invited to a special luncheon for the winners. He was presented with his award by Howard Davies, Director of London School of Economics and Political Science and Patron of Working Families; Sarah Jackson OBE, Chief Executive of Working Families, and Ramon Martin, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, American Express. He was joined at the lunch by employee Ami Turnbull, who nominated Graeme for the award.

She has a Braille keyboard and Call Connection adapted their in-house computer software to enable her to fulfil her job monitoring the quality of the call handling by staff.
In her nomination, Ami, said of Graeme: "I had been working at Call Connection for three days when I found out that I had been matched with my Guide Dog Trent and would need to take three weeks off for training. Being new, I was nervous about what would be said, but I was given total support and time off. Since qualifying with my dog, the company has even accommodated my need to take short periods off for trips to the vet."
Call Connection has developed an enviable reputation for the way it looks after its staff. Employees own three per cent of the business, they are given life insurance and free gym membership, and are treated to day-trips and team bonding holidays.
