Company Counters Union Claims with Legal Action

June 23, 2011 -- Staff at a Birchwood call centre donned flat caps as they protested against what a union calls ‘workhouse conditions’ reminiscent of Victorian times.

Members of the Communication Workers Union held the protest outside Herotsc’s office last Wednesday in a dispute over working conditions.

The union says the company has reduced paid break times and shift patterns have been changed twice in the past six months, without proper consultation.

It claims new employees are not being offered company sick pay.

The company disputes the union’s claims.

A spokesman added: "The company is aware of statements made by the CWU and vigorously denies the allegations. We note that following legal representation, some of the allegations have been removed from the CWU website.

"There has been further contact between the company’s lawyers and the union’s lawyers as Herotsc continues to take appropriate legal steps to defend its position.

"Herotsc has a proud employment relations record, values its workforce and rejects any suggestion it would treat staff in the manner alleged."
