Dombrovskis: Opening of Samsung Call Center in Riga Important for Latvia

July 7, 2011 -- The establishment of Samsung call center in Riga, which will serve Baltic and Nordic countries and create 80 new jobs, is very important for Latvia, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis said during a meeting with Korean National Assembly Speaker Park Hee-tae yesterday.

It is planned that the South Korean company will launch operations in August; Samsung has invested EUR 1.2 million in the development of the call center.

During the meeting, Dombrovskis acknowledged Latvia's wish to strengthen the bilateral relations with South Korea, especially in economy, culture and education. The premier said he was pleased at Latvia's cooperation with the Korea Importers Association, and urged Korea to open a representation in Latvia.

Korean National Assembly speaker informed Dombrovskis that an agreement had been reached to open Korea's regional diplomatic representation in the Baltic countries in Riga, and that an extensive Korean cultural program was to take place in Riga this fall to introduce Latvians to Korean cinema, music and cuisine. These events will be organized to mark the 20th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Latvia and Korea.
