DYXnet Teams Up with Dell, VMware to Launch Cloud Dedicated Hosting Service
DYXnet, a VMware public cloud service provider powered by Dell, leverages virtualization to help SMEs cut costs, improve productivity and data availability
HONG KONG, Aug. 2010 -- DYXnet, Greater China's ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Service Provider, today announced that the Group will team up with Dell, global systems and services company and VMware to offer a Cloud Dedicated Hosting (CDH) Service which uses virtualization to help small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) to cut costs and improve productivity and data availability.
The service will be available immediately to customers in Hong Kong, quickly followed by China and Taiwan.
Running on Dell Blade Servers with Dell Virtualized EqualLogic storage solutions, CDH leverages VMware vSphere(TM) to deliver Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), a high performance, scalable and on-demand IT platform that responds to changing business needs quickly and flexibly. CDH is designed primarily for SMEs, helping them get the most from their IT investment by using 'cloud' resources instead of maintaining their own servers, storage, operating system and network.
"We are really proud to be a VMware public cloud service provider powered by Dell," said Lap Man, Founder and CEO of DYXnet. "IaaS is a nascent market in Greater China and we are glad to co-operate with two industry leaders, VMware and Dell. Our CDH service liberates SMEs from a lot of the cost and bother of IT, and it also lays the foundation for large-scale public and private cloud service deployments. As a leader in business-to-business services, DYXnet is pioneering a true B2B cloud computing model. This is the future of enterprise as well as consumer computing."
For SMEs, the major advantage of DYXnet's CDH service is that they can avoid the burden of investing in expensive data centre equipment and the associated costs of maintenance, cooling and periodic disruption during upgrades. Customers retain the flexibility to choose their operating system, CPU performance, RAM and storage capacity, with a provisioning time as short as three working days. CDH features high availability, a fault tolerance option, dynamic resource allocation and other productivity benefits. It also confers environmental advantages by eliminating redundant equipment and reducing energy consumption.
"Fast-growing SMEs face the challenge of user demand for more and more IT capability," said Steve Lam, Managing Director of Dell Hong Kong. "They can find themselves on a treadmill of investment and operational costs as they struggle to meet that demand. Adopting IaaS helps to free up their budget and management energy to focus on their core business. Together with DYXnet and VMware, we have created highly efficient virtual environments for SMEs through Dell's open, capable and affordable convergent solutions, to help them rapidly decrease their cost of IT ownership and improve data availability."
CDH uses bare-metal virtualization to offer enhanced security and stability by enabling each virtual machine to run its own operating system and storage in complete isolation from both the physical hardware and other virtual machines. CDH also provides fast auto-restart of virtual machines in case of server hardware failure. The fault tolerance option enables two instances of the virtual machine to run simultaneously on separate servers, with seamless switchover to prevent outages.
David Sung, President of VMware Greater China said, "We are delighted to collaborate with DYXnet and Dell to help SMEs fully leverage the benefits of virtualization. This solution enables customers to utilize storage, network and computing resources as needed and with greater efficiencies, helping to further control costs and respond more quickly to business needs."
