News : Election Commission Plans Call Centre to Monitor Complaints

New Delhi, April 17, 2012 -- Having decided to hold the Rajya Sabha elections to two seats from Jharkhand afresh in the wake of allegations of use of money power as inducement and other malpractices during the poll process last month, the Election Commission on Monday issued fresh measures to curb such malpractices. The notification for the fresh polls was also issued on Monday.
In a first of its kind, the EC has directed the Chief Electoral Officer of Jharkhand to open a 24x7 call centre for receiving complaints from public regarding malpractices during the polls. Also, it has directed constitution of dedicated Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams to attend to the complaints received at the call centre.
The EC has appointed an expenditure observer to keep a tab on the movement of unaccounted cash in the state till conclusion of polls. It issued directions to Director General of Income-Tax (Investigations), Patna, to monitor any movement of undisclosed or unaccounted cash at airports, railways stations, hotels, farm houses and others.
