Government to Train Rural Youth in IT for Jobs in MNCs

Chennai, Oct 20, 2011 -- In an effort to eliminate backwardness and also equip them to take advantage of the plethora of opportunities in IT and related sectors, the state government has planned to groom the rural youth in information technology.

"The move will enable the rural youth to overcome challenges and gain employment in multi-national firms," an official said. A specially formed team of technological experts will groom rural youth. It has been planned to train about 2,500 students during 2011 — 2012 fiscal at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

The e-district project initiated in Krishnagiri district aims at taking the government services to the last mile with departments like revenue, social welfare, backward classes and most backward classes, tribal welfare and Adi Dravidar departments have started to provide services at the village-level through common service centres (CSC) that have been established there. Measures are underway to set up similar centres in Chennai and its neighbourhood to ensure e-administration.

It also includes providing information status on educational aid and social welfare schemes besides providing certificates online. It would be a citizen-centric portal catering to the needs of the people.

Also, the government has initiated efforts to bridge the rural-urban divide. Steps are on to establish a citizen contact centre in Chennai for `6 crore to provide services like grievance redressal, contact details of government offices, status of petitions /applications seeking services, in addition to clarifications on government schemes.
