Legacy Publishing Celebrates Expansion

WESTBROOK, February, 2012 -- A Westbrook company officially opened its second location in the city Tuesday, with a number of distinguished guests in attendance, including Gov. Paul LePage.

LePage, along with representatives from both Sen. Susan Collins’ and Sen. Olympia Snowe’s offices, were on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Legacy Publishing. Also on hand were Westbrook Mayor Colleen Hilton, City Council President Brendan Rielly, City Councilor Michael Foley and City Administrator Jerre Bryant.

The event celebrated a major expansion for Legacy Publishing, which already has one 10,000-square-foot office on Speirs Street. Now the company, a call center that produces multimedia personal development products for families, has leased another 10,000-square-foot building on Larrabee Road.

The new building will employ about 125 new employees, nearly doubling the size of the company’s workforce, said Mike Wilson, vice president of operations. In prepared remarks at the ceremony, LePage noted that such an expansion, in such difficult economic times, is remarkable.

"That’s terrific," he said. "That’s big time for the state of Maine. That’s big time for anywhere in the country."

Hilton, who also spoke, said she was proud to see a local company doing so well.

"This is really a wonderful day to celebrate," she said.

Legacy CEO Steve Anderson thanked his employees for all their hard work, and credited them for helping make the expansion happen.

"It’s always been difficult, but the most difficult things are the most worthwhile," he said.

The company’s Speirs Street location operates 24 hours a day, largely as a call center for marketing and selling its multimedia products, which are geared toward behavioral therapy, substance abuse, and other issues some families struggle with, according to Nathan O’Leary, a spokesman for the company.

The company is still hiring, said Gene Taylor, facilities manager. Most of the new positions are in sales and marketing for the company’s products.
