The layoffs were taking place Friday afternoon, the company said in a brief press release, and the workers were being advised of their final pay and of their eligibility to return, the company said. Aegis said the layoffs are the result of a decline in "seasonal health care client engagement in support of open enrollment." It said the temporary workers were advised of the seasonal nature of the jobs when they were hired. Many could return for the next open enrollment season, which typically runs from August through January. "Aegis has substantial roots in the Killeen community, and will be adding new client engagements in the Killeen center in the coming months," the company said. In September, the global business-process outsourcing provider announced it was looking to hire 700 additional people to fill temporary positions at its 110,000-square-foot Killeen contact center.
