Recruitment Starts for 300 New BT Jobs in West Bromwich
Nov 18, 2011 -- Recruitment has begun for more than 300 customer service advisers at BT's new call centre in the Black Country.
BT announced plans in December to create up to 450 new jobs as part of a partnership with Sandwell Council to regenerate the local business district.
The call centre will be based in Providence Place, a business complex in West Bromwich designed to attract more firms into the area.
The council said the BT jobs were a major gain for the local economy.
BT's chief executive Ian Livingston said: "We all know how difficult the job market is, so the fact BT is bringing more than 300 further roles to the area is great news and is a reflection of the efforts and co-operation of both the [union] and Sandwell council." A spokesman for the Labour-led council said the customer adviser jobs had come about as the result of discussions between BT and the Communications Workers Union (CWU).
He said: "These discussions have helped ensure the new jobs are permanent BT roles - rather than third party roles - and are based in the UK."
