Samsung to Open Call Center in Latvia

March 7, 2011 -- South Korea's Samsung Electronics will open a call center in Latvia in the coming months that will provide services for the Nordic market, as Samsung Electronics Baltics President Sangho Jo said in an interview with the business portal Nozare.lv.

The call center will employ more than 100 people; initially the call center will provide services in the Baltic and Nordic countries.

To establish such a center, a multilingual staff is needed. There are many people in Latvia who have good command of several languages – Nordic languages, German, Russian, which makes Latvia the right place for the placement of such a service center.

Labor costs in the Baltic countries is another advantage, as they are lower than in, for instance, Nordic countries. Plus, there is the Russian factor – Russia is a large market, and almost every Latvian understands and speaks Russian, said Jo.

Finally, Latvia has one of the best-developed Internet infrastructures in the world, which is of much importance for the Samsung call center.

Samsung Electronics Baltics turnover in 2009 amounted to LVL 85.65 million, according to Lursoft data from the Register of Enterprises. The company posted LVL 241,135 in profit in 2009.

Data on Samsung Electronics Baltics performance last year is not yet available, but the company has said that its turnover increased 30-40% last year.
