News : Taxman to Scrap Sunday Hotlines
25 Oct 2010 - The taxman is closing down its Sunday phone helplines from next month. From the week beginning 29 November, HM Revenue & Customs says contact centres will not operate on Sundays, allowing staff redeployments during busy periods in the rest of the week.
From the week beginning 29 November 2010, Sunday call centre staff will be redeployed during peak periods in the rest of the week, "driving down waiting times and providing a more effective service for all," the taxman said.
Weekly contact centre opening times will also be changed to allow more staff to answer calls during the busy periods.
For the "vast majority" of its lines, the operating hours will be Monday - Friday 8am - 8pm and Saturday 9am - 4pm, HMRC added.
