Oct 17, 2011 -- Geraldton's local council has approved a layout design for a proposed technology park near the city's airport.
The precinct is designed to provide permanent job opportunities to locals by boosting training services.
Councillors voted to approve the proposed design of the precinct, which will be built on council-owned land surrounding the airport.
City Mayor Ian Carpenter says the plan is designed to boost services in the region.
"We just encourage people to come here whenever we can and as an example one of the commercial airlines is going to relocate its call centre here from Perth because they can utilise their security staff as call centre people as well," he said.
The Durack Institute of Technology supports the plan and it wants to establish a training centre for mine workers at the facility. Posted by Veronica Silva Cusi, news correspondent Source: http://www.abc.net.au
