Home Changes You Can Make Before Next Summer - Lewis Robinson - Blog

Home Changes You Can Make Before Next Summer

Summer can be the best time of the year. It's filled with outdoor activities, barbeques and sunshine; you may be looking forward to it already. When the weather is cooler and you're spending more time inside, you can take that opportunity to start thinking about what you could do to your home to prepare for the summer season. Whether you want to do some simple projects or start planning big ones that you've put off for far too long, you'll be glad that you got an early start. Here are some changes you can start making now to plan for next summer.

Prepare for a Pool Now

Maybe you've been thinking about putting in a pool or you just decided to on a whim, either way, getting the process in motion early will ensure that you have a pool ready for the summer as soon as it starts to warm up. Financing has become an easy process. You can get a pool loan quickly and get started on designing your dream pool right away.

There are many benefits to starting the pool installation process before summer arrives. The type of pool that you want can greatly impact the construction. You don't want to rush just to get something in the ground before swim season ends. You'll have to start the design, hire the pool contractor and get approval from the proper authorities. Taking advantage of fall weather relieves you of the pressure of time constraints. If little mishaps happen along the way, you have the chance to recuperate without losing that enviable time floating on the water and basking in the sun.

Get the HVAC Ready

While having a pool is a perfect way to enjoy the outdoors without suffering the heat, a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system is your first line of defense to beat it. If you already have one, thinking about maintenance in the cooler months is a crucial part of homeownership. HVAC systems are significantly more efficient at cooling a home than a window unit as long as they are functioning properly. Have the ductwork checked before the hot days get here; it can get clogged and slow down the cooling process. Consequently, it can also impact your utility bill as the system struggles to cool your home.

If you do not already have an HVAC system, get one put in now. Weather can change quickly and unexpectedly, and installing an HVAC can be a cumbersome process depending on the size and layout of your home. It's better to start early and get it installed during milder weather.

Consider New Windows

If you've noticed that air seems to creep in through the window cracks or around the frame, it may mean that it's time to consider installing new windows. If you know the windows in your house haven't been updated recently; start thinking about and planning to update them before the summer months arrive. Window technology has advanced to new heights in recent years, and you can expect to find something that will fit your aesthetic preferences and slice your utility bills during the summer when they skyrocket from your cooling unit.

Get Ready for Summer Decor

Last, you can even get started on the fun parts of summer, the decor. Style can be functional, so you can have both. You may want to change the upholstery on some of your furniture to something that better suits the heat. Replacing thick sheets and pillow covers can make those warm nights more comfortable. Thermal curtains can keep heat out and trap the cool air inside. You can shop off-season when everything is cheaper and store it.

You can get the backyard ready. Picking outdoor furniture is fun and can be stored until you're ready to place it. If you're designing a new pool, you can start thinking about the decorative details and furniture to go around it.

Get the most out of the summer months by thinking ahead. You can do any or all of these suggestions now to get ready for the next summer season and never lose a moment of great weather. Don't forget the pool floats!
