Turning Your Business Green - Lewis Robinson - Blog

Turning Your Business Green

As the director of a business, you have several things you need to make sure your company is doing. One of the more common areas to be concerned about is the process of going green. Many think that it is impossible for their offices and corporation to be eco-friendly since they didn’t start out that way. Here are eight things you can do to change that misconception.

Change the Lights

While they are more expensive to buy, energy-saving light bulbs are worth the investment. On average, they will last about five times longer than a regular bulb. They use less energy and do not contain poisonous substances either. If you are looking to save even more energy by way of electricity, you could ask for a solar quote to see if that is worth installing.

Begin to Recycle

Before you throw everything in the trash, look to see if it can be recycled. Common items that get thrown away can often be saved and remade into something else. Putting recycle bins with lists of recyclable goods all around the office can be a good reminder for your workers. You can also find recycled items to use in your buildings to help support the cause such as furniture, paper products, and ink.

Do a Fundraiser

Consider hosting an environmentally friendly fundraising event to show the community what you believe in. This will also help raise awareness for a specific cause you choose to be a part of. Multiple different ideas like tree planting, seed selling, and treat tasting, are there for you to choose from. Participating in something like this can really help inspire others to go green in whatever ways they can.

Pick a Partner

A great way to have your entire business go green is to ask your vendors what they do to help support the environment. Inquire about their manufacturing facilities, their supply lines, and their transportation. By supporting vendors that are doing their part, you are showing your true interest in the cause. You can also see what other businesses and corporations you could partner with that encourage going green as well.

Try to Educate

While you, as the manager of the business, may desire to be more economically friendly, not all those who work for you will have the same goal. Teach your employees the importance of saving the planet and doing what they can to contribute. You can create goals and games to get people inspired to do more. You can also offer sessions that show how living green can affect the earth not only now, but in the future as well.

Watch the Cleaners

It is vital that your offices stay clean and sanitized for several reasons; however, most cleaners contain harsh chemicals and toxins that are harmful to both your body and the environment. Invest in cleaning products that promote going green and are free of harmful ingredients. They often require less product use as they are well-concentrated and contain elements that can clean almost any surface.

Look after Employees

It may seem like something a doctor would do, but you can help strengthen your employee’s health while at work. Offer snacks that can help both them and the environment. Stay away from processed foods and encourage healthy habits. Do your best to see that your company promotes a safe, eco-friendly environment inside your office. The mental stability of your workers is just as important as the earths.

Remove any Plastic

One of the biggest ways companies harm the environment is through their use of plastic. The primary form of this waste is through bottles. Many provide drinking water through a supply of bottled water. Purchasing a water system for your office will give your employees clean water to drink and promote the use of reusable bottles. Although it seems small, fixing this one area can benefit the environment in an unimaginable way.

Going green is not only easy but extremely beneficial. Start implementing changes in these areas as soon as you can, ensuring your company is doing its part to help save the environment.
