7 Ways to Be at Your Best During the Workday - Carol Evenson - ContactCenterWorld.com Blog

7 Ways to Be at Your Best During the Workday

Your workday is challenging, and you need a game plan to take it on with gusto. Here are seven ways to feel your best and do your best possible work during a busy day.

  1. Get a Good Night’s Sleep

If you go into a work day with just half a night’s sleep, you’ll be running on fumes just halfway through your workday. Being better rested will make you feel ready to take on whatever comes your way while you’re at work.

  1. Tackle the Most Difficult Items on Your Agenda First

Sometimes people feel inclined to start their day with the easiest things to knock off their to-do list. While you may tell yourself that you’re trying to hit the ground running by starting with the things that you can do quickest, you may simply be procrastinating about more difficult and pressing items on your agenda. Others begin the day by answering emails, but this puts other people in control of setting the tone for today rather than taking charge of what you consider to be the most important priorities. Ideally, you should be starting your day with the toughest things that you need to work on; they’re probably also the most important.

  1. Stay Positive

Positive thinking can help you shape a better workday. Everything that happens during your day isn’t altogether within your control, but your attitude is. Put your attention towards what’s good about your day. When things don’t go your way, don’t get discouraged or start counting the hours until you can go home because it will only make your day seem longer and harder. Instead, try to maintain a positive outlook on what you have to do, and you’ll produce better work and get through your day more easily.

  1. Create a Focused Working Environment With Essential Oils

Getting too wound up during your workday can make you feel frazzled and distracted. Young Living Essential Oils can help you enhance your mood while you’re busy at work. In a hectic work day when you have to manage a lot of moving pieces, essential oils can promote focus as well as calm. You can use a diffuser to periodically release oil fragrance and create a better ambient environment that’s conducive to productivity. In addition, it can make your immediate surrounding area smell present and make you enjoy being at work more.

  1. Eat Healthy

You need to fuel your workday with healthy snacks so you can stay energized and avoid feeling running down. Pick healthy snacks and satisfying lunches with lean protein, fiber, whole grain, and vitamin-packed fruit. Lay off of snacks that are made with a ton of highly processed ingredients and contain a lot of sugar or empty calories. They may give you a quick burst of energy, but it will be short-lived. When that energy quickly fades, you’ll feel like you’ve completely run out of steam. Your focus will wane, and you may get very sluggish. Ultimately, what you eat during your work day will have a significant effect on your energy levels and alertness.

  1. Take Breaks

Getting up from what you’re doing and taking breaks is important for both your physical and mental well-being during a work day. If you stay in a seated position in front of a computer for too long at once, your entire body can become fatigued and it can create a lot of pressure on your joints, particularly your neck and wrists. Getting up to stretch can get your blood recirculating and prevent your joints from starting to feel uncomfortable. Also, a quick couple of minutes to reframe your mindset when you’re feeling bogged down by work can help you examine it with fresh eyes and recharged focus.

  1. Review Your Work and Identify Areas for Improvement

It’s often said that people are their own worst critics. However, fear of criticism from others can cause you to create work that’s less than what you’re capable of because your thoughts are dominated by pressure and dread rather than focus on the task at hand. Review your work carefully before considering it to be complete or sharing it with others. Work on identifying areas that could be improved and what you’re doing best so you can hone your skills and plan your time accordingly on upcoming tasks.

A well-balanced and productive workday requires a good attitude, a strong work ethic, and the fuel and rest that your body needs so you can perform at its best. Get the most out of your work days by taking care of yourself and staying cool under pressure.
