Best Sports For Pick-Up Games

One of the most enjoyable ways to get your exercise in is through sports. Sure, you could go to the gym and run on a treadmill for an hour, but getting involved in a sport gives you all the same benefits in a manner that you can have fun with. Unfortunately, many of the leagues that cities have available are full of people with a high skill level, so it can be hard to come as you are.

One of the most popular pick up sports is softball. Many cities will have leagues for people to just sign up, so you can join no matter your experience level. Joining a softball league will not only give you the exercise you're wanting but can also make you new friends and leave you with lifelong memories. Many of these teams are very casual, as they're composed of mostly working parents who are just looking to get out and have some fun. There's no need to worry about not being good enough, as these teams are just for the fun of it.

If you already have a group of friends together that wants to play, you can even form your own pick-up game. It isn't difficult to find a field, as many municipalities have open fields at parks that you can use. The biggest thing you'll have to worry about is finding gloves and softball bats for everyone, but depending on your area, you could even potentially rent these. Even if everyone brings their own glove and then shares one or two bats, you can have a good game going. So grab some friends and head on down to the field for a good time.

Another popular pick-up sport is volleyball. This one requires a little bit more skill than softball does, but it is no less fun. With pick-up volleyball, you don't need as many people as you would with softball, but you will need a net. If your local park doesn't have one, many sporting goods stores have portable volleyball nets for pretty cheap. Buying your own has the added bonus of being able to play any time you go to the beach or go out for a picnic as well, which isn't always possible with other pick-up sports.

While some cities have club volleyball leagues, these are usually pretty elite and incredibly competitive. If your skill level is strong enough, you should definitely try out for one. You'll be able to get some serious exercise and have fun in a competitive environment without having to be involved in a class or anything. Of course, that isn't always the most accessible option for many people. There's no need to worry if you aren't a star player. Forming your own team or joining a smaller local league is still a fun way to work out without the pressure of a club league.

Finally, perhaps the most popular pick-up game is basketball. Almost every park you see has at least a half court and a rim, so it's no wonder that basketball is such a common sport for those looking for a sport to play locally. To join a pick-up basketball game, you don't have to do much more than just walk up to the court on a busy day. More often than not, other people will join you there and a game will start up soon. If you don't want to play a full-fledged game, you can even just shoot baskets on one of the hoops and brush up on your skills.

By getting outside and playing some basketball, you'll not only boost your fitness level, but you'll also meet people your age in your community. Pick-up games from all different types of sports are a great way to build communities and are something that humanity has been doing for millennia. So put yourself out there, get outside, and meet some new people. You never know what you could be missing.
