Networking and the internet had huge impacts and propelled computer technology to a new level. Data of all kinds could now be shared by people all over the world without any of them having to leave their homes or offices. Cloud computing was an innovation that took things even further. Every techie and computer nerd has embraced the use of cloud technology and all aspects of it.

Cloud visibility obviously relies on having a cloud. Used in this sense, a cloud is a collection of all kinds of computing services. It includes software, networking, databases, storage, servers, intelligence, and analytics accessible to computer users anywhere via the internet. Using cloud computing saves money on hardware and software since one source can be shared by everyone. It also facilitates the backing up of data as well as improves both reliability and speed. When using the cloud, any tech nerd worth their salt utilizes cloud visibility.

As advantageous as cloud computing is, there are potential problems. When using a cloud, the management of IT infrastructure is generally outsourced to a third party such as Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure. This frees up businesses using the cloud to focus on their own work without having to worry about the complexities involved in managing the cloud.

The downside is you may not have full control of the system. Hybrid and multi-cloud setups are especially vulnerable. Your IT department may not be able to detect a security breach or keep track of key functions. This is where cloud visibility comes in.

As the name implies, cloud visibility gives you access to see all activity that occurs within your cloud. Any data is always visible. This means you will know when a data breach has occurred and see any threats to security. You get the best of both worlds. Control over your IT infrastructure while the hosting and management are handled by a third party.

There are good reasons why the tech-savvy use cloud visibility. It offers several benefits. 

• Cost Management - When you can see all cloud activity, you are able to identify resources that are being wasted or underused. You may have storage capacity you don't need but is costing you more money.
• Tracking Performance - Third-party hosts cannot give you the full picture of performance issues. You may, for example, need to go through customer service. With cloud visibility, you will see problems as they occur and can solve them immediately.
• Better Security - On-premises systems can be effectively protected by firewalls and threat detection software but they don't help with a cloud infrastructure that is massive and widespread. Cloud visibility allows you to continually monitor the entire system and identify potential threats and deal with them as they occur.

Factors That Make the Cloud Harder to Manage

When you use a cloud, there are factors that increase the difficulty of cloud management.

• Scale - The cloud allows for scalability. As your business grows, your infrastructure grows with it. This means much more to monitor and is a great reason to use cloud visibility.
• Tools That Are Inadequate for Some Tasks - Monitoring your cloud infrastructure requires tools but they need to be specific to the task. Visibility lets you know exactly what tools you need.
• Less Control - When moving to the cloud, you relinquish control to the third-party host. Cloud visibility gives back that control.

One of the most innovative and useful advances in computer technology is the cloud. A central location for resources and data accessible to all users is extremely helpful. There are, however, issues that can be problematic. The use of cloud visibility allows you to eliminate these issues and use the cloud while having full access to the activities within it.
