ATLANTIS COMPUTING BROADENS STORAGE OPTIMIZATION OFFERING WITH ATLANTIS ILIO FOR CITRIX XENSERVER - Joe Austin - ContactCenterWorld.com Blog

ATLANTIS COMPUTING BROADENS STORAGE OPTIMIZATION OFFERING WITH ATLANTIS ILIO FOR CITRIX XENSERVER

Citrix, Atlantis and GlassHouse to Publish Desktop Virtualization Architecture for XenServer and Atlantis ILIO

Mountain View, CA –October 26, 2011 – Atlantis Computing™, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions, today announced the expanded support for Citrix technologies including the ability for Atlantis ILIO to run as a virtual appliance natively on the Citrix XenServer hypervisor. Atlantis ILIO is the first storage optimization solution to deliver up to 90 percent storage reduction and better than PC performance for Citrix XenDesktop on XenServer.

The Atlantis ILIO™ software virtual appliance allows customers to reduce the cost of their Citrix implementations by cutting the amount of storage normally required and enabling the use of lower cost storage options as part of any desktop virtualization project. In addition, Atlantis ILIO makes virtual desktops run faster than PCs to ensure user acceptance and enables security measures to be deployed without impacting the number of users per server.

“We are thrilled to offer Citrix customers the ability to deploy Atlantis ILIO on their hypervisor of choice together with the Citrix FlexCast™ desktop delivery model that fits their requirements and budgets,” said Bernard Harguindeguy, CEO of Atlantis Computing. “It is now possible for Citrix XenDesktop customers to deploy Atlantis ILIO on XenServer and deliver a virtual desktop at a cost below that of a PC while delivering an incredible user experience.”

Atlantis ILIO complements the following Citrix technologies:
• XenDesktop – Atlantis ILIO reduces storage required by up to 90 percent, enables use of lower cost storage options, boosts desktop performance and can run on XenServer.
• XenApp – Atlantis ILIO increases user density and reduces storage costs for IO-bound XenApp deployments.
• Machine Creation Service (MCS), Provisioning Server (PVS), Personal vDisk (RingCube), Hosted Shared Desktops – Atlantis ILIO complements the process used to manage and deliver Citrix virtual desktops. It accelerates all aspects of desktop performance including boot, logon, application launching and anti-virus scanning.

Citrix, Atlantis Computing and GlassHouse are designing, testing and publishing a Desktop Virtualization reference architecture that is focused on the following objectives:
• Lowering the cost of a virtual desktop to less than a PC.
• Making a virtual desktop run faster than a PC to ensure user acceptance of Desktop Virtualization
• Integrating critical components of Citrix technologies such as PVS, MCS, XenServer and personal vDisk with Atlantis ILIO.

Atlantis ILIO Technology
Atlantis ILIO is a software virtual machine that optimizes how the Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 7 operating systems interact with storage. Atlantis ILIO technologies include highly efficient processing – in the rack – of Windows NTFS storage IO traffic and inline deduplication of Windows images before they reach storage. They are designed specifically for VDI workloads and as a result, Atlantis ILIO reduces the amount of traffic going to storage by up to 90 percent and decreases the storage capacity required by up to 99 percent, further reducing the amount of storage needed for a successful VDI deployment. The impact is a dramatic reduction in the cost of the virtual desktop and a large boost in desktop performance.

Atlantis ILIO for Citrix XenServer™ Availability
Atlantis ILIO for Citrix XenServer edition will be generally available on October 27, 2011. In addition, Atlantis Computing will be accepting requests to participate in a private Beta program for Atlantis ILIO for XenApp starting October 26, register by emailing citrixflexcastbeta@atlantiscomputing.com.

Atlantis ILIO at Citrix Synergy Barcelona
Atlantis Computing will be demonstrating Atlantis ILIO for Citrix XenServer and accepting requests to participate in the XenApp beta programs at Citrix Synergy, Barcelona, October 26th to 28th. Stand #521.

In addition, Atlantis Computing will be presenting “Slashing VDI Costs with Cisco UCS, Atlantis ILIO and Citrix XenDesktop” Citrix Synergy at Cisco stand 204 on October 27 at 3:45 pm.

About Atlantis Computing
Atlantis Computing is transforming enterprise desktop computing by solving the challenges of virtual desktop deployments: storage costs, performance and the impact of security on server density. The Atlantis ILIO software complements Citrix, VMware, and Quest VDI solutions to cut VDI costs and deliver a desktop that is faster than a PC. With Atlantis ILIO, IT organizations can deploy 4-7 times more desktops on the same storage footprint, making VDI more affordable by both cutting the amount of storage needed per desktop and enabling the use of less expensive storage. Atlantis Computing is privately held and funded by El Dorado Ventures, Partech International and Cisco Systems with headquarters in Mountain View, California, and offices in London, England and Bangalore, India.
