Storage Switzerland Recognizes Gridstore as the Affordable Solution to Fault Tolerant Storage

Recent Stress Testing in the Storage Switzerland Lab Demonstrates that Gridstore NAS Stands Up to Almost Any Failure

Gridstore™, the leader in scale-out NAS storage solutions, today announced that Storage Switzerland has identified Gridstore as an affordable fault tolerant storage solution that can stand up to almost any failure. In a recent Storage Switzerland article and lab-based “stress test,” the leading analyst firm underscores the value and performance of Gridstore’s grid-based NAS offering.

In the article, “Fault Tolerant vs. Highly Available Storage,” lead analyst George Crump states, “Grid-based storage, like that offered by Gridstore, can leverage its architecture to provide fault tolerance without the cost that’s traditionally associated with this technology. The ability to provide consistent performance and improved uptime makes grid based storage a valuable new solution to some common storage problems.”

Storage Switzerland points out that there is a misconception in the storage industry that highly available storage is the same as fault tolerant storage. The research group identifies that in reality, fault tolerance can bring specific advantages to storage systems that high availability cannot. For example, unlike high availability, fault tolerant storage can instantly and automatically take over the services of a failed component and there is no disruption of storage services. Adding to the attraction of fault tolerant storage, it is now affordable for environments of all sizes.

The Gridstore scale-out architecture seamlessly distributes virtualized storage controllers to every client that accesses the storage pool and allows the user to incrementally grow their storage pool capacity one storage block at a time with no disruption of service. Gridstore also eliminates network bottlenecks by using parallel IO to uniformly spread the data across many storage nodes, giving more bandwidth to the storage system.

“The Gridstore NAS has earned its spot in the lab for reliability,” said Crump in his testing report. “We have no doubt given our stringent testing that the Gridstore NAS can stand up to almost any failure that you can throw at it.”

“We are honored that after all of the extensive testing Storage Switzerland has done to Gridstore 2.0 that they would highlight our product as the solution for fault tolerant storage,” said Kelly Murphy, CEO, Gridstore. “Gridstore has aimed to provide affordable, scale-out NAS storage that simplifies management while increasing performance, scaling and reliability.”

Atlantis Computing Accelerates Virtualized Citrix XenApp According To Independent Testing by Citrix CTP Shawn Bass

Product Review Validates Atlantis ILIO for XenApp Accelerates Performance with 53% Faster Provisioning and 77% Shorter Boot Times While Using 92% Less Storage

Mountain View, CA – Atlantis Computing™, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions, today announced the results of an independent product test performed by Citrix CTP and Microsoft MVP, Shawn Bass. The findings of the product review validate that the Atlantis ILIO for Citrix XenApp solution delivers 53% faster provisioning, 77% shorter boot times and a reduction in storage requirements by 92%. Based on the report by Shawn Bass, deploying virtualized Citrix XenApp workloads with Atlantis ILIO can accelerate XenApp performance, reduce storage requirements and increase density in an IO constrained environment.

Atlantis ILIO for XenApp is a software virtual machine that complements virtualized Citrix XenApp by accelerating performance, increasing server density and reducing the amount of storage required. Accelerating provisioning and boot times simplifies the management of XenApp by giving administrators the flexibility to refresh VMs more frequently with less downtime. By eliminating the IO bottleneck associated with running virtualized XenApp with SAN or NAS, Atlantis ILIO is able to increase density while delivering a better user experience.

Atlantis Computing Launches Solution to Optimize Citrix XenApp in the Virtual Datacenter

Atlantis ILIO for Citrix XenApp Solves the Storage and Performance Bottlenecks

Mountain View, CA – March 28, 2012 – Atlantis Computing™, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions announced the release of Atlantis ILIO for Citrix XenApp to address the challenges associated with virtualizing Citrix XenApp deployments on VMware vSphere. Atlantis ILIO reduces provisioning time, improves the user experience and cuts the amount of storage required by up to 90% when running Citrix XenApp in the virtual datacenter. Atlantis ILIO for Citrix XenApp is particularly critical to customers planning to virtualize XenApp 6.5 with Windows Server 2008 R2.

Virtualizing XenApp causes a storage bottleneck that increases provisioning times, extends boot times and can reduce the number of XenApp sessions per server. To address the storage and performance barriers, Atlantis ILIO for Citrix XenApp continuously optimizes the storage traffic of the virtualized Windows Server throughout the daily cycle of re-provisioning, bootup and logon.

“There is a massive install base of customers on Citrix XenApp 4.5 with Windows Server 2003 that must move to Citrix XenApp 6.5 with Server 2008 R2 by March 2013,” said Vincent Branger, Virtualization Expert and Consultant, Infralys. “When customers migrate to XenApp 6.5, the majority will virtualize Windows Server 2008 R2 to take advantage of the manageability and consolidation benefits of server virtualization. However, the combination of virtualizing XenApp, upgrading to Windows Server 2008 and shared storage introduces performance issues with provisioning, boot time and application response time for IO bound applications.”

As XenApp customers migrate to Windows Server 2008, they want to virtualize their XenApp servers to take advantage of server consolidation and improve their manageability. However, the combination of virtualizing XenApp and moving to Windows Server 2008 requires a significant increase in the amount of shared storage needed to avoid performance issues.

“Both VDI and Citrix XenApp/RDS follow patterns of approximately 80-90% write activity vs. read activity during steady state. This means that the enhanced write capability delivered by Atlantis ILIO is extremely important to the scalability of the Citrix XenApp & RDS/TS platform,” said Shawn Bass, Citrix CTP and Microsoft MVP. “Deploying RDS/XenApp workloads behind Atlantis ILIO can reduce storage requirements, improve provisioning and boot time and improve scalability.”

“As we deployed Atlantis ILIO for VDI to help optimize Citrix XenDesktop deployments, we were continually asked by customers about helping them with their Citrix XenApp deployments,” said Bernard Harguindeguy, CEO of Atlantis Computing. “The Atlantis ILIO optimization of XenApp helps customers overcome the storage challenges of migrating XenApp to a virtualized datacenter, makes it possible to provision and refresh XenApp servers on-demand, and improves the user experience.”

Atlantis ILIO for Citrix XenApp Test Results as Measured by Citrix CTP and Microsoft MVP, Shawn Bass

Performance
Provisioning – 53% faster provisioning
Boot Time – 4x faster boot times
Applications – accelerates response time of IO bound applications
Density
Server Density – 16% increase in users per server
Storage Density – 10x more users on existing storage
Storage Savings
Storage Capacity – reduce storage capacity by 92%
IO Offload – reduce IO to storage by up to 90%
Latency – reduce IO latency to improve response time

Anita Borg Institute Releases New Report on Hiring Practices to Help Companies Compete in the Global War for Technical Talent

Research-based Report Offers Proven Solutions to Overcome "Blind Spots" in Recruiting Technical Women to Increase Workforce Diversity and Innovation - http://bit.ly/zvrRgk

The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology today released a new report that outlines four key areas where companies should focus their recruitment efforts to increase access to a range of technical talent available in a highly competitive environment. Solutions to Recruit Technical Women is the first in a series of reports offering solutions companies can employ to improve the recruitment, retention, and advancement of technical women.

When it comes to technical talent, industry recruitment and hiring practices have become highly complex over the past decades as the labor market for scientists and engineers has shifted from individual national economies to a truly global labor market. Multinational companies face significant challenges and competition to fill technical positions, and renewed talk of a “global war for tech talent” emerged shortly after the recent global economic downturn.

The Anita Borg Institute report points out that for both large and small organizations who invest in a recruiting infrastructure as well as outsourced recruiters and head hunters, there continue to be consistent blind spots in recruiting and hiring practices that prevent companies from tapping into the wide spectrum of technical talent available — men, women or underrepresented minorities.

Extensive organizational research indicates that these blind spots are concentrated in four areas that, if ignored, can negatively impact equity, productivity and innovation:

  • Concentrating recruitment at a small number of sites;
  • Narrow recruitment criteria;
  • Hiring processes that are implicitly biased; and
  • Lack of organizational infrastructure to support recruitment and hiring efforts that yield high returns to both talent and diversity.

Solutions to Recruit Technical Women is designed to help companies overcome these blind spots based on data-driven results in both academic research and corporate practice. The report features case studies from Cisco, IBM, Intel and Intuit, and provides strategies to enables companies to address each blind spot:

  • Recruitment avenues: Companies should consider expanding recruitment channels such as reaching out to a broader array of academic institutions, developing internship programs, leveraging social networks and other ways that expand their pool of job candidates.
  • Recruitment practices: Carefully examining internal recruitment practices and how they market job opportunities externally will have a significant effect on how potential talent views the company and considers whether to join a candidate pool.
  • Hiring process: As companies begin to attract more diverse candidates, then it becomes important to focus on the hiring process itself to ensure a positive experience for candidates and to reduce the elimination of candidates based on implicit biases.
  • Overarching considerations: Lasting change depends on a variety of factors such as implementing solutions not in isolation but in bundles, commitment to diversity from the top leadership down, setting and measuring against established goals, and longer term, helping to build the pipeline by funding or engaging in K-12 initiatives when interest in STEM educations and careers is all too often made or broken.

"The goal of our Solutions to Recruit Technical Women report is to help companies continuously improve and adjust their hiring practices and reduce barriers to attracting a diverse pool of top technical talent," said Telle Whitney, CEO of the Anita Borg Institution. "By doing so, they will see greater returns on their recruitment investment, enhance innovation levels, and position themselves to succeed in an increasingly competitive global market."

Asigra Cloud Backup version 11.2 software provides a simple, single, adaptable, and flexible service provider solution to support all IT environments ranging from consumers to global enterprises. Combining technology, operations and go-to-market direction in one package, Asigra has taken the lead in helping service providers become more agile and profitable. ROI is accelerated by significantly reducing time-to-market of new services and automating many of the manual and error-prone management processes inherent with piecemeal approaches. This reduces the risk and cost of service development, deployment, maintenance, and operations.

Asigra v11.2 provides the following benefits to service providers seeking to build and sell services that cater to consumers, small and medium businesses (SMBs) and enterprises:

  • Deeper Integration with NetApp –Asigra software leverages native NetApp features at both the core and edge of the cloud to:End-to-end data protection – v11.2 features enhanced support for IOS 5 and Android 4.0 operating systems for complete protection from the smartphone to the data center.
    • Speed and simplify data backup/capture at the customer site (edge of cloud)
    • Speed and simplify restoration at the end-customer site
    • Improve scalability and performance of core backup/restore processing
    • Speed replication to backup archives, cloud storage, and remote disaster recovery site(s)
  • End-to-end data protection – v11.2 features enhanced support for IOS 5 and Android 4.0 operating systems for complete protection from the smartphone to the data center.
  • Increased support for virtualized operating environments – Support for VMware 5.0 with 3X performance improvement, Hyper-V clustering and Xenserver 6.0.
  • Streamlined customer acquistion and retention – Low touch customer on-boarding, self-service administration, and on-demand web portal reports.
  • Centralized management  with expanded support for mixed environments – Asigra DS-NOC delivers single pane-of-glass management for mixed public, private and hybrid cloud environments
  • Simplified wholesale and white-label branding options – Ability to re-brand end-customer and service provider interfaces for white-labeling makes it easy for large service providers to offer a wholesale and resale solution to their channel partners.

"The inevitable movement of data toward the cloud has end-users and service providers taking notice. While service offerings will vary to address a diverse set of applications and users, a foundation based  on security, reliability, scalability, and efficiency will be a common priority among all cloud service providers," said Brad Nisbet, program director, IDC Storage and Data Management Services. "Technology providers, such as Asigra and NetApp, who address demanding service provider requirements will be extremely effective in helping to deliver leading-edge cloud storage solution

“For enterprises looking for lower cost alternatives to on-site tape-based backup infrastructures, Asigra Cloud Backup built on NetApp enables service providers to offer a scalable and resilient cloud-based service to end users with a cost effective alternative to on-site tape backup infrastructures,” said Chris Cummings, Vice President of Products and Solutions Marketing, NetApp, Inc. “Combined with NetApp‘s industry leading efficiencies and automation, the solution enables service providers to truly differentiate their service offering in the market and build a compelling business model.”

“Regardless of whether end-users require the economy of a public cloud, or the flexibility of a hybrid cloud, Asigra allows service providers to deliver,” said Simon Chappell, CEO of Backup Technology Limited. “The powerful DPaaS platform, built on NetApp storage and Asigra Cloud Backup software, provides the fastest time to revenue with proven cloud delivery processes under a single efficient storage platform. We have benefitted from the experience of these two top-class organizations and are positioned for continued success in this emerging market space.

“As service providers assist organizations in transitioning to virtualized operating environments and cloud-based infrastructure, they are also recognizing the importance of re-architecting their approaches to data protection whether supporting a small enterprise or a multi-national corporation,” said Douglas Ko, Director, Strategic Alliances and Product Marketing for Asigra. “Asigra delivers a multiple of benefits that help service providers differentiate their offerings, accelerate time to market, and reduce operational costs to provide real value

Gridstore Named Finalist for the Red Herring Americas Top 100 Award for Its Scale-Out NAS Solution

Mountain View, Calif. – Gridstore™, the leader in scale-out storage solutions, today announced that the company has made the Red Herring Americas Top 100 short-list for its scale-out NAS solution. Red Herring is a global media company uniting the world's best high technology innovators, venture investors and business decision makers in a variety of forums: a leading innovation magazine, an online daily technology news service, technology newsletters, and major events for technology leaders around the globe. Red Herring provides an insider's access to the global innovation economy, featuring unparalleled insights on the emerging technologies driving the economy.

The Gridstore scale-out NAS solution uniquely combines virtualization with a grid processing platform to deliver a single pool of storage that simplifies management while increasing performance, scalability and reliability. The Gridstore system is designed for organizations that struggle with the risk, cost and complexity of storage sprawl and who need enterprise class storage without the problems associated with clustered storage approaches. The result is a disruptive storage platform designed from the ground up for the virtual data center that eliminates 20 years of legacy technology and eliminates the virtualization roadblocks of cost, complexity and performance that has limited wider adoption of the virtualized data center.

Finalists have made it through two of three phases. In phase one, judges eliminated companies based on viability of the business model in terms of technology focus and innovation, or lack thereof. The remainder of the companies left went through phase two, which consisted of a peer review where the judges reached out to experts, i.e., the venture capitalist community or analysts from large investment and consulting firms, to discuss the viability of a company’s business model and growth/revenue projections, the competitive landscape, and the big picture in that company’s sector.

“It is an honor to be named a finalist by Red Herring for the Americas Top 100 award,” said Kelly Murphy, CEO Gridstore. “This further validates our position as a game changing, scale-out storage solution that eliminates the complexity, risk and limitations of traditional, cluster-based storage models. With Gridstore, organizations now have an enterprise-class, scale-out NAS that delivers the simplicity and reliability they require - at half the cost of standalone NAS offerings.”

The finalists are invited to present their winning strategies at Red Herring Americas in Los Angeles, May 21-23, 2012. The top winners will be announced at a special awards dinner on May 23.

Atlantis Computing Gains Momentum in Global VDI Deployments, Saving Customers Millions on Deployment Costs While Providing a Desktop Experience that is Faster than a PC

Atlantis Computing Partners Drive Adoption of Atlantis ILIO Technology

VMware Partner Exchange - Las Vegas, NV – Atlantis Computing™, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions has become the VDI storage optimization technology of choice for a growing number of customers ranging in size from 25 to 100,000 users across vertical markets that include financial services, insurance, government, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, retail, real estate, manufacturing, construction, energy, education, legal and telecommunications. Atlantis Computing customer base growth was driven entirely by partners on three continents; including deployments in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany and Japan. Atlantis Computing also increased its channel to 64 partners including value added resellers, system integrators and distributors.

“Desktop Virtualization holds the promise of many benefits but had yet to receive a warm welcome from the market as initial VDI technologies were too expensive to deploy, speeds were slow, and users could easily tell the difference between virtual desktops and physical PCs,” said Bernard Harguindeguy, CEO of Atlantis Computing. “Atlantis ILIO is leading the new generation of VDI technologies and enabling our customer and partners to unlock the full potential of VDI by driving down the cost per desktop and delivering an experience that makes users want to switch to virtual desktops.”

Customers and Partners Highlight Benefits of Atlantis ILIO

JP Morgan Chase is a leading global financial services firm with assets of $2.0 trillion and operations in more than 60 countries.

“The deployment of virtual desktops is strategic to JPMorgan Chase,” said Paul McEwen, managing director, JPMorgan Chase. “Virtual desktops increase user productivity, lower costs and will ultimately become a competitive advantage for us.”

Frankfurter Bankgesellschaft a Swiss bank that specializes in international private banking and wealth management services.

“Atlantis ILIO was the enabler for our VDI project,” said Zdravko Ruzicic, Head of Systems and Networking Engineering at Frankfurter Bankgesellschaft. “Deploying Atlantis ILIO reduced the cost of storage from $2,223 per desktop to $150 including the cost of the Atlantis ILIO software – a 93 percent savings without compromising our user’s experience.”

World Wide Technologies is a leading VMware View Systems Integrator providing technology products, services, and supply chain solutions to customers around the globe.

“Atlantis ILIO enables WWT to deliver lower cost and better performing VDI solutions to our customers,” said Scott Miller, director of cloud and virtualization at World Wide Technologies. “Integrating Atlantis ILIO into our VDI stack is accelerating our customers VDI purchases and we have large federal government customers adopting Atlantis ILIO to optimize their VDI deployments.”
Presidio (formerly INX) is a leading VMware View partner focused on data center virtualization, collaboration, security, mobility, contact centers and network infrastructure.

“Designing storage for VDI is critical to the success and significant cost for all VDI projects,” said Steven Kaplan, vice president of virtualization, Presidio (formerly INX). “We are recommending that our customers use Atlantis ILIO to make VDI storage more efficient, lower the cost per desktop and ensure the success of their VDI deployments by providing users with a much better desktop experience.”

Foundation IT is a UK based VMware partner focused on delivering virtual desktop based solutions.

“To deliver successful VDI implementations on VMware View, we need performance, scalability, and significant cost savings. Not two out of three, but three out of three,” said Andrew Sellers, director at Foundation IT. “We chose Atlantis ILIO because it delivers significant CAPEX savings whilst providing ‘better than PC’ user experience. We have brought VMware View and Atlantis ILIO together to deliver our WorkSpace end-to-end VDI solution that achieves the operational simplicity and scalability that desktop virtualization always promised at the same cost of a traditional PC.
