Asigra Cloud Backup v11 Outperforms the Competition in Backup and Disaster Recovery Software and Services Category

TORONTO – February 14, 2012 – Asigra Inc., a leading Cloud Backup™ and recovery software provider since 1986, today announced that the company has been named the Backup and DR Software and Services Category Gold Winner in the Storage Magazine/SearchStorage.com 2011 Products of the Year competition. Asigra received the award for its comprehensive end-to-end cloud backup solution, providing device agnostic protection from the datacenter to the smartphone. According to one of the judges in the competition, “There’s nothing like Asigra Cloud Backup in the market for enabling backup and recovery as a service.” The backup and DR software and services category includes backup, recovery, disaster recovery, snapshot, replication, electronic vaulting and archiver solutions.

Tweet This: @Asigra Named #Backup and #DisasterRecovery Product of the Year Gold Winner for Cloud Backup v11 - http://bit.ly/w3cC4C

“Asigra Cloud Backup v11 is the first cloud backup product designed to protect storage, servers, desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones -- a range of functionality that reduces if not eliminates the need for backup point products,” noted Storage Magazine/Searchstorage.com editors. “Asigra is first backup software provider to offer a product with the ability to provide end-to-end enterprise protection from the data center to the smartphone.”

Asigra was recognized in the awards for a number of industry firsts and capabilities designed to address the complexity and cost of managing and protecting a diverse range of IT environments. Storage Magazine highlighted this by saying “Asigra’s software can be deployed as an on-premises private cloud backup solution, a hybrid cloud backup solution for local and offsite backup, or as a pure public cloud backup app. The protection provided by Asigra is device agnostic and can be installed as a virtual machine. V11 also offers a new Web management portal and an automated licensing scheme. The company’s Cloud License Server allows managed service providers (MSPs) to remotely authenticate and update users’ licenses.”

Examining performance improvements of the solution, the publication cited a number of enhancements, including a “400% improvement in throughput over previous versions, support for 10 Gbps local-area network (LAN) interfaces, and data read/write acceleration with multi-threaded data dedupe, parallel processing for read I/O and data throughput, multiple overlapped I/O and delta differencing.”

"Our goal is to focus organizations on what data protection is really all about, data recovery,” said Asigra CEO, David Farajun. “We are thrilled that Storage Magazine has recognized the unique advantages our solution brings. Asigra offers a multi-dimensional solution that can reside in and protect physical and virtual environments simultaneously while being device agnostic to protect all instances of data throughout an organization, substantially reducing data protection management requirements.”

Gridstore's Scale-Out Storage Solution Wins the 2011 Cloud Computing Excellence Award Sponsored by Cloud Computing Magazine

Mountain View, Calif. – February 1, 2012 – Gridstore™, the leader in grid based, scale-out storage solutions, today announced that the company has been awarded the first Cloud Computing Excellence Award from TMC. Gridstore was selected as one of the top 30 companies that most effectively leveraged cloud computing in efforts to bring new, differentiated offerings to market. The winners will be published in the January 2012 issue of Cloud Computing Magazine.

With Gridstore’s scale-out storage solution small and medium sized organizations enjoy simple plug and play scaling of capacity, IO and performance without the cost, complexity and 3X capacity bloat of first-generation cluster based offerings. Gridstore’s unique grid based NAS is the only scale-out solution that provides a fault tolerant system designed to withstand multiple, simultaneous failures without downtime or data loss to ensure customers can run 24/7 non-stop. Gridstore allows customers to start small and grow capacity to any size required simply by adding storage nodes to their network. This eliminates the need for customers to over provision storage and removes the risk and cost of standalone storage silos common with traditional storage approaches.

“We continue to see strong adoption of storage applications in the cloud and we are honored to be recognized for our innovation and leadership by Cloud Computing Magazine,” said Kelly Murphy, CEO Gridstore. “Receiving the top storage software award for our scale-out storage solution is further validation of our building block approach to storage that offers enterprise-class performance, simplicity, reliability and scalability – at an affordable price for any organization.”

Erich Flynn, CEO

The New Partner Marketing Enablement

Marketing assistance is one of the most requested benefits that partners ask for from the companies they represent. CRN’s Annual Report Card found that resellers value “channel enablement” more than anything else. This is echoed by Everything Channel’s recent recognition of “Channel Champions,” all of which have implemented partner marketing enablement in their programs.

So what new trends are there in partner marketing enablement? How can you best help partners that are typically sales focused, have small marketing staffs and limited technical or financial resources? Here are some things partner programs are beginning to offer to stand out:

1. Automated co-branding of collateral

2. Full service co-branded campaign execution

3. Partner microsites

Tweet This: @Asigra Named Best Channel Vendor by Business Solutions Magazine for 100% Channel Focus and Value Beyond Software for Channel Partners

An exhaustive survey completed by over 4,300 verified BSM reseller subscribers and totaling over 10,833 votes, revealed that Asigra ranked at the top of the Storage category among a vast number of companies for its 100% focus on the channel, innovative pro-rata channel program, service-enabling cloud backup platform and overall working relationship with partners.

The BSM Best Channel Vendor award is based on a survey conducted from mid-September through October and given to the publication’s IT Channel subscribers. The survey asks service providers and VARs to rate their partners in seven categories, including support and service offering, channel friendliness, channel programs, product features, product reliability, product innovation, and profit margins. The award, based on the results of the survey, recognizes the strengths and commitment of a vendor’s partner programs for its channel partners.

Asigra has differentiated itself as a cloud backup enabler with a pro-channel business model that rewards partner sales & marketing efforts on a pro-rata basis. Under this model, partners of any size can benefit from maximum margins and premier company incentives in the marketing, sales and delivery of cloud backup services. As an example, the company encourages its partners to participate in the development of content for the company’s monthly Cloud Backup newsletter providing partners with a thought leadership opportunity to extend their voice into the market. The company also features a Partner Spotlight on its website, showcasing partners who are Powered by Asigra and demonstrate excellence in delivering private, public and/or Hybrid cloud backup solutions. Additionally, at its 2011 annual invitation-only Cloud Backup Partner Summit Asigra announced its Partner Award winners, recognizing channel partner successes in achieving outstanding customer satisfaction through innovative business practices.

“Superior technology is only one of the reasons we remain a service provider partner and advocate of Asigra,” said Matthew P. Grosso, Executive Vice President, Data Storage Corporation. “With more than 20 years as a cloud backup enabler, Asigra understands the market and supports their partners at every level, from business development to marketing and customer support. She delivered her comments as a keynote speaker at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing 2011, the world’s largest gathering of women in computing.

Jackson's keynote, titled What if I Lived on the World Stage?, addressed the importance of meeting the challenges and opportunities presented today, with a global perspective: "We are fortunate to live in a time of interconnectedness, where communications and collective action are possible at an international level. We have seen the consequence of this in terms of social and structural change in a number of countries recently. However, in thrusting people of different cultures together daily and rapidly, our smaller world also creates difficulties in achieving true understanding and consideration."

Jackson continued, "Science and technology work across language and culture in a special way. They are global disciplines that reach past nationalities and ethnicities. Thanks to new technologies, we have the opportunity to work in a coordinated way as we face challenges that affect everyone on this planet."

Answers Most Frequently Asked Questions About Cloud Backup in New Guide for SMBs and Enterprises

Guide to Business-Class Cloud Backup Addresses Security, Deployment, Data Location and Cost

TORONTO – December 15, 2011 – Asigra Inc., a leading Cloud Backup™, Recovery and Restore (BURR) software provider since 1986, today announced availability of its new downloadable guide titled, “What You Need to Know About Cloud Backup: Your Guide to Cost, Security and Flexibility.” The no-charge educational resource answers the most commonly asked questions by IT professionals on the application of cloud-based backup in a business environment.

Tweet This: Download your  #Cloud #Backup and Recovery Guide for SMB and Enterprise compliments of @Asigra - http://bit.ly/vyxY4n

Cloud backup, recovery and restore (BURR) solutions are increasingly becoming recognized as a secure, cost-effective and reliable approach to protecting the rising tide of corporate data in both data centers and remote business locations. While the advantages of cloud backup have been validated in hundreds of thousands of business installations, switching to a cloud-based backup system is a significant decision that requires a clear understanding of how it will integrate into the organization’s IT environment.

This new Asigra guide to cloud backup addresses the most common questions that companies are asking about cloud backup and will help determine what role a cloud backup, recovery and restore system can have within the business. Some of the topics covered in the guide include:

·       Public, private and hybrid cloud backup and which approach is best suited for differing business environments.

·       Steps required to implement a cloud backup solution.

·       How data recovery typically operates within a cloud model.

·       How availability requirements are met when company data is stored offsite in a cloud.

·       How cloud backup systems ensure data integrity while data is being transferred over the wide area network (WAN).

·       The requirements for reliable cloud backup services.

·       IT resource requirements for the setup and maintenance of a cloud backup solution.

·       The myths and realities of cloud backup subscription fees.

·       How data is stored in a business-class cloud backup environment.

·       High-speed recovery which is critical when time is of the essence and a production data center becomes unavailable.

Given the reliability, cost savings and ease of operation associated with cloud backup, many companies are now moving to the cloud. Cloud backup allows companies to leverage existing infrastructure, significantly reducing the capital costs associated with data protection. Cloud-based backup is a transparent approach to data protection that allows users to set their backup policies once and let the solution do the rest, slashing management resources and the risk of human error associated with alternative approaches. Cloud backup also solves the shortcomings of tape-based backup, reducing the expense, management headaches and security concerns of lost tapes. Businesses also have greater control of the data recovery times which are set in the service level agreement (SLA) between the customer and cloud backup service provider.

The new guide to cloud backup provides businesses with greater insight into this modern approach to recovering information assets when data loss occurs. It also examines what a switch to cloud backup, recovery and restore solution involves from the perspective of management time, IT resources and costs. The guide is available immediately and interested parties can download this resource without obligation at http://www.asigra.com/what-you-need-know-about-cloud-backup

Hybrid Cloud Backup Projected to be Among Top Backup Industry Trends in 2012

Cloud Backup Leader Identifies Five Emerging Areas in Cloud Backup with Highest Growth Potential

TORONTO – December 14, 2011 – Asigra Inc., a leading Cloud Backup™, Recovery and Restore (BURR) software provider since 1986, today announced five emerging market and technology trends in cloud backup, based on end customer and service provider adoption rates and feedback worldwide. Among the top five trends identified for 2012, hybrid cloud computing, followed by mobile device protection, backup consolidation, diverse service model adoption and greater SMB adoption of cloud backup are expected to increase.

Tweet This: Hybrid Cloud Computing to be Among Top #Cloud #Backup Trends in 2012 According to @Asigra – http://bit.ly/psJwGa

According to the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Cloud Backup and Recovery Special Interest Group (SIG), cloud backup involves backing up data offsite to a data center (organization's central data center or service provider’s data center) over a WAN, using standard internet protocols. Hardware infrastructure is shared by the provider's 'customers' which provides increased efficiencies and reduced costs due to syndication and sharing. This makes cloud backup an inexpensive and flexible way of accessing storage on an as needed basis that is highly available and secure while offering elastic capacity.

With more than 400,000 customer site deployments of its cloud backup technology worldwide, Asigra is at the forefront of customer requirements and adoption trends. As customer IT requirements evolve, Asigra monitors those that are driving the shifts in technology and service adoption. In 2012, the company expects to see several emerging trends and technologies in cloud backup. These include:

·       Adoption of hybrid cloud backup and recovery

·       Cloud-based mobile device protection for tablets and smart phones

·       Cloud backup for the consolidation of diverse IT environments and processes

·       Diversity in how cloud-based data protection is delivered and consumed

·       Greater SMB adoption of cloud backup

Hybrid Cloud Computing

Hybrid cloud computing is where an organization manages some IT operations internally and others externally. This is a growing area in cloud backup, where a company may subscribe to a public cloud backup service while also maintaining a local recovery server or storage environment. With a hybrid cloud backup configuration, the customer benefits from both local and offsite recovery while realizing the efficiencies, scalability and cost advantages of cloud computing.

“The primary reason organizations are adopting a hybrid approach to cloud backup is because they can have their cake and eat it too,” said Brad Lappe, Director of Sales, Dakota Backup. “They get the performance of local recovery with the assurance of offsite data protection. When combined with its low cost advantages it’s a major win for the customer.”

Mobile Device Protection

According to Crawford DelPrete, Chief Research Officer and EVP, IDC, “The use of tablets at businesses is predicted to grow dramatically over the next five years. Employee-owned mobile devices used to access business apps reached 41 percent in 2011, up 10 percent over 2010. It will continue to grow at this pace to reach 70 percent by 2015.”

Enterprise-wide cloud backup, recovery and restoration support for tablets and smartphones provides end-to-end protection of the digital footprint. In 2012, customers will seek expanded support that allows rollback to any point across any device to meet recovery point and recovery time objectives (RPO/RTO). Protecting these devices will become an imperative for many organizations under financial and healthcare industry regulations.

Enterprise Backup Consolidation

As organizations continue to deal with the deluge of information to manage and protect, they will continue the move toward technologies that perform these processes efficiently. This includes the consolidation of disparate data protection technologies under a single management interface and solution which allow organizations to capture less, ingest less, and store less data -- reducing the amount of backup assets to buy, manage and maintain. As part of cloud backup, features such as global data deduplication and Backup Lifecycle Management (BLM) help manage data growth in environments ranging from data centers to mobile devices. Additionally, cloud backup consolidates the complex and time consuming cocktail of backup solutions most enterprises deploy today.

Diversity in Cloud Backup Deployment

One of the key advantages of cloud backup is the multitude of delivery models available to both end customers and the service providers that serve them. The advantage is better conformance with specific industry and business requirements and adherence to accepted practices, rules and regulations. As the adoption of cloud backup continues its brisk pace in 2012, organizations will deploy private, public and hybrid configurations of the technology and service providers will become more focused on serving user verticals with more refined industry-specific solutions.

Greater SMB Adoption

“SMBs globally spent $11 billion on cloud computing in 2011, growing at a CAGR of 12 percent until 2015,” says Techaisle[1], an SMB-focused research firm. According to the firm’s research, a logical progression of services adoption is emerging among SMBs, with storage and security leading the way. “An estimated 138 million SMB employees are expected to use some form of cloud by the end of 2011. Among the mature market countries, the U.S. will have nearly 1 in 4 SMB employees using cloud technology.”

With the reduction in complexity, cost and IT resource requirements, understanding SMB adoption of cloud computing is simple. In the case of cloud backup, the technology eases one of the most burdensome, yet critically important, IT tasks. By automating processes while improving data recovery, the advantages are laid bare and growth among small and medium size businesses will continue to rise throughout 2012. Increasing SMB use of cloud backup is validated by the huge growth in cloud backup service providers who target SMBs as seen in 2011 by Asigra, one of many industry participants.

“There are many reasons to modernize data protection with cloud backup,” said Eran Farajun, EVP, Asigra, Inc. “Throughout 2011 we received regular feedback from our partner network, one of the largest cloud backup service provider ecosystems in the world. The input we received gives us confidence in our projections and shows that this is a robust and evolving market.”

Asigra to Present on Cloud-Based Virtual Disaster Recovery at DatacenterDynamics 2011 Toronto

TORONTO  – Asigra Inc., a leading Cloud Backup™, Recovery and Restore (BURR) software provider since 1986, will present at the DatacenterDynamics (DCD) 2011 Toronto conference on the topic of cloud-based virtual disaster recovery (VDR). Asigra’s executive vice president, Eran Farajun, will recount approaches and key advantages of cloud-based disaster recovery when deployed in an enterprise environment. Interested attendees should go to Hall 2 at the Mariott Eaton Center in Toronto on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 9:55 a.m.

Tweet This: @Asigra’s EVP presents on #cloud based virtual #disasterrecovery at #Datacenter Dynamics 2011 #Toronto http://bit.ly/sG9wOY

As a growing number of organizations restructure their IT environments to enhance uptime, Virtual Disaster Recovery (VDR) is emerging as a key ingredient for any organization’s business continuity plan. VDR focuses on backing up virtual machines instead of physical servers, which often requires re-installation of the operating system and the use of local-client backup applications to recover applications and data. With VDR, recovery is much quicker since there is no need to re-install the operating system and applications on a physical server. Instead, virtual machines are recovered with these elements intact. VDR advantages include:

  • High-speed recovery which is critical when time is of the essence and a production data center becomes unavailable.
  • Recoverability of virtualized applications to either the same or disparate hardware platforms.
  • The ability to recover data to the location of choice for greater operational flexibility.
  • Many-to-one recovery for greater efficiency. This allows companies to get the most out of fewer recovery servers compared to the production site.

Guidance on cloud-based VDR strategies and techniques will be provided during Farajun’s presentation to help organizations ensure access to critical business applications and data when required.

“Virtual Disaster Recovery can provide significant advantages for organizations virtualizing their IT environments,” said Lauren Whitehouse, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. “As companies transition to a more virtualized state, they are being exposed to new strategies and solutions that allow for greater flexibility and control of data protection processes. VDR is one such approach to recovering virtualized applications and data that helps organizations become more prepared when the situation requires.”

“VDR is an advanced approach to expediting data recovery in the event of system downtime, returning access to important business data quickly and efficiently without the need for costly additional hardware or offsite recovery locations,” said Farajun. “With cloud-based VDR, data recovery is performed without the need to reinstall software applications, patches or services packs to any computing platform.”
