The National Broadband Network is in full rollout mode, which lets consumers the freedom to choose from telco providers.
According to The Daily News, though the complaints are piling up a little bit, many consumer advocate groups urge Australians to keep faith as the rollout gives them the chance to choose their provider and get away with restrictive Internet contracts.
Laurie Patton, CEO of Internet Australia, announced that he had met with NBN officials and he said that the network managed to convince him that they are improving their services, amidst the rising complaints that are straining the agents of telco outsourcing services.
Mr Patton added that if the NBN improves their service, it would help customers to look for better Internet contracts when the rollout arrives in their town.
He said, “I would encourage people to look to a range of Retail Service Providers (RSPs) to see what they offer because the packages do differ from one to another,”
“If you are able to access the NBN then you should look at the price and differing packages offered because you’re putting yourself on the path to the getting the best future, in terms of options.”
Simply put, once a certain area becomes "NBN ready," people there have a year and a half to move their phone and Internet services.
Paton said, “The point is that there is now an opportunity for consumers to look at the market more broadly and to compare offers from a wider range of RSPs,”
“NBN is a wholesaler and any numbers of RSPs are the ones who actually sign up and manage the customers. The idea of the NBN model was to increase retail competition.”
All in all, with more options to choose from, consumers can now have access to better Internet service that will help them from their everyday lives.
