NJ NENA Fall Meeting - Wilmac Company - ContactCenterWorld.com Blog
I recently had the pleasure of representing the Wilmac Public Safety Practice Group at the NJ NENA Fall Meeting held at the Burlington County Emergency Services Training Facility. It was a great opportunity to network with peers and listen to some extremely informative presentations on relevant public safety topics that impact our customers.
Notable presentations include:
- Text to 9-1-1: Craig Reiner, Director of NJ Office of Emergency Telecommunications Services, provided a detailed update on the current text to 9-1-1 efforts in place throughout NJ and timelines for the completion of initial statewide testing and eventual rollout. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon have committed to provide text to 9-1-1 service in all areas served by their networks where a 9-1-1 call center is prepared to receive texts.
- JerseyNet: Fred Scalera, Public Safety Broadband Manager at NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, spoke about how JerseyNet is implementing deployable networks for the public safety community within the State utilizing System on Wheels (SOWs) and Cells on Wheels (COWs). This will usher in a new era of communications capabilities for public safety in the state and ensure that first responders finally have a secure, resilient and sustainable broadband network that can deliver remote, mobile, mission critical capabilities such as real time video, sharing of crime information, and incident scene mapping. It will also ensure that public safety personnel can communicate with each other not only statewide, but nationwide, regardless of jurisdiction or public safety discipline.
- NJ 2-1-1: Joe Geleta, Executive Director of NJ 2-1-1 Partnership, delivered an overview on how NJ 2-1-1 puts people in need of assistance in touch with the appropriate resources that can help, whether those requests are for basic needs such as food and housing or specialized needs such as assistance for senior citizens, veterans and those with disabilities. Specific to public safety, they work closely with the NJ Office of Emergency Management and the state’s network of Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster to communicate their emergency response and recovery plan to the public, and are poised to disperse timely information regarding seasonal and emergency public health announcements.
I came away from the event excited about the important role NJ is playing in the initiatives that will change the way our public safety partners conduct business. Sharing of resources, systems, and data will be the topic of many discussions in the future, and it is important to me to continually expand my knowledge so that I can help guide our customers toward solutions that meet their needs not only today, but in the future as well.
