About the Role

The Director of Tax will be a key leader in the Controllership and will manage all aspects of Dialpad’s global tax strategy, planning, reporting, audits and compliance. This strategic but hands-on role will allow you to be an influential leader and a partner with cross functional stakeholders to provide leadership, be a subject matter expert in advising tax requirements and lead significant areas of international expansion in an exciting, fast-paced, high growth SaaS organization.

Responsibilities

• Oversee completion of federal, international and state income tax returns including all related analysis and support
• Timely review and coordination of payment of direct and indirect taxes, including sales and use taxes and telecommunication taxes
• Establish strategies to minimize tax expense and exposures with regard to taxes paid for federal, state, and foreign income taxes, property taxes, etc.
• Lead and oversee the preparation of all jurisdictional income tax provisions including ensuring accurate and timely ASC 740 tax accounting and financial reporting disclosures
• Manage audits on federal, state and local filings
• Provide forecasts and guidance regarding future effective tax rates and cash taxes
• Monitor legislative changes in tax laws that may impact tax positions, including tax accounting implications
• Research complex tax issues and summarize results to communicate to management 
• Perform tax due diligence, provide structural advice on transactions, and provide ad hoc advice on all tax matters
• Ensure compliance with global transfer pricing documentation requirements
• Develop policies and positions to drive and defend tax efficient outcomes globally, including discussions with taxing authorities
• Manage, collaborate with and review the work performed by outside tax professionals
• Liaise with external auditor on all audit matters related to tax
• Establish and maintain formal tax policies, practices and procedures to ensure US GAAP compliance and strong internal controls with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
• Oversee and/or complete special projects as required
• Develop a culture of mentorship, continuous improvement, training, and success in the accounting organization

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Taxation required. CPA and public accounting experience required.
• ~ 12 years in leadership and relevant tax experience in multi-national public technology, SaaS, and/or telecommunications companies
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, federal, state and local corporate income tax as well as indirect taxes sales/use and property tax. Experience with telecommunication tax is preferred.
• Experience with NetSuite, Suretax (or equivalent) preferred
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex tax matters with simplicity and clarity to non-experts across the company
• Demonstrated ability to interact with and influence management and contributors at all levels of the organization and across functions
• Ability to meet compliance deadlines, work independently, prioritize competing workloads, and manage the deliverables from business partners and team members
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and analytical skills
