Patna, India, July, 2022 -- The emergency response support system (ERSS), which runs the integrated centralized helpline ‘Dial 112’, has received as many as 6,599 calls from residents seeking help related to police, fire service and health since its launch on July 6.

Of the total calls, 34% were for general law and order situation, including fighting. The state has reported highest 20% calls related to domestic violence between July 6 and July 25, as per the comparative analysis of Dial 112 released by the Bihar Police headquarters on Wednesday.

Similarly, around 10% calls were regarding road accidents, 5% medical emergency, 4% robberies and 2% land disputes during the same period. Apart from these, 1% cases each of sexual harassment, physical offences, nuisance and kidnapping and missing have also been received.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar had launched the Dial 112 service to provide a single-point contact number for people seeking police, fire and ambulance help. This project is currently under the trial stage and is being implemented in two phases in the state.A senior officer said the integrated helpline has been helpful in providing quick responses to callers in distress and facing emergency situations.

"In the initial days, the helpline received fewer calls as people weren’t aware about the integrated number. But now, the number of callers is getting higher everyday. We are also taking feedback from the people who registered complaints, once they were provided help," he said.

In the first phase, the state government has procured 400 emergency response vehicles, including 100 for Patna district only, while 15 to 25 for each district.

Total 1,200 vehicles will be procured under this project by December. These vehicles are equipped with mobile data terminals and GPS navigation system.
