Plans for New Centrica Base Revealed
Leicester, England, Jan 4, 2019 - Plans for new space for more than 1,300 Centrica employees at an historic gas works site in Leicester have been revealed.
Kier Property Developments has drawn up the proposals for a new contact centre alongside a new training and research base at the site in Aylestone Road.
The application, which has been submitted to Leicester City Council for consideration, includes a new 100,000 sq ft contact centre over three floors which would feature a central atrium, staff restaurant, meeting rooms, breakout spaces and office space.
The research and training centre would be housed within a lower level building with a footprint of 30,000 sq ft and a 10,000 sq ft mezzanine.
The plans also include 950 car parking spaces and would have space for more than 1,300 employees.
Aylestone Road Chemical Works opened in 1886 with gas production ceasing in 1969.
A statement submitted to the council on behalf of the applicant said: "Keir Property considers this development would be a good option for Centrica should they choose to relocate."
A final decision is due to be made by the city council in the coming months.
