West Yorkshire, UK, Aug 17, 2021 -- If you think you're up to the challenge of handling 999 calls, then West Yorkshire Police could have the perfect job for you.

With jobs going in Wakefield and Bradford, the force are looking for new people to respond to both emergency and non-emergency calls.

The job will be varied and require the person successful to be calm, understanding and cool under pressure. The calls will concern anything from a burglaries to assaults.

The force are also offering apprenticeships in Emergency Service Contact Handling.

There are vacancies for full-time staff happy to work a 24/7 shift pattern, as well as those looking for part-time hours, job sharing or needing flexible working arrangements.

West Yorkshire Police said: "Many people may only use our services once in their lifetime; others might regularly need our assistance.

"Collectively, our ambition is to provide the highest possible quality of service to them all, so that we can protect and reassure the vulnerable, tackle crime and disorder and bring offenders to justice.

"You will have a critical role to play in making sure that the communities of West Yorkshire have confidence in their police service and that they are satisfied with the actions we take.

"This is not just about working in a call-centre; this is about exceptional public service and teamwork to ensure the best possible outcomes for people who need our help."

Potential candidates must have experience of computer packages such as Microsoft Office as well as being open to complete IT courses required for the role.

Applicants must have a minimum typing speed of 28 words per minute and a good command of English, both verbal and written.

They should be good team players and previous experience of working in a call-centre environment would be useful.

For those wanting to follow the apprenticeship route, they must already have pass grades in both English Language and Mathematics at GCSE or equivalent level.

If the applicant does not have these grades, they must complete the Functional Skills qualification to level 2 standard during the training programme. More information on this can be found here - training will last around 13-14 months.

The opening salary is set at £19,452 - £20,706, plus 20 per cent shift allowance and 13.45 per cent weekend enhancement, as applicable.

However, there is opportunity to climb the ladder to earn more.

Assessments will then be held from September 1, and interviews are expected to be held from September 13, both at Force Headquarters in Wakefield city centre.
