NDLEA Plans to Launch Call Centre to Help Nigerians Using Illegal Drugs

Abuja, Nigeria, Oct 21, 2021 -- The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is planning to launch a 24/7 call centre to provide counselling for Nigerians struggling with the use of illicit drugs.

The agency's chairman, Buba Marwa, said during a media briefing on Thursday, October 21, 2021 that many drug users are unwilling to seek help because of stigma.

He said the call centre will help ease this problem and provide help for people that need it.

"This call centre, which will be made up of a team of psychiatrists, psychologists, and correct staffing, is in process," he said at the briefing that took place at the Presidential Villa.

The general neglect of the Nigerian health sector means sub-sectors that cater to things like rehabilitation of drug users are hit even worse, a situation Marwa acknowledged.

The NDLEA boss said the planned call centre will very likely launch by the end of the year.
