Eir Jobs Announcement for Sligo, Cork and Limerick

Cork, Ireland, Oct 18, 2018 -- Eir has announced it is to create 750 jobs in Sligo, Cork and Limerick six months after it cut the same number of jobs as part of a voluntary redundancy programme.

Eir CEO Carolan Lennon has said that the job announcements have absolutely nothing to do with the 750 redundancies announced by the company in April.

The company says 350 of the new positions will be at a new state-of-the-art facility at Rathedmond in Sligo town.

The roles will be mainly in customer services and are part of eir's overall programme to bring all customer-facing functions back in-house.

In September the company announced it was ending its contract for its call centre with HCL Technologies and bringing the work back in-house.

According to eir, the goal of the programme is "to deliver a higher quality of service for customers and greater levels of ownership and responsibility for eir employees."

In April of this year, eir announced it was cutting 750 jobs throughout its operations as part of a voluntary redundancy programme.

It brought staff levels to around 2,500.

Ms Lennon said the redundancies were across the organisation and the jobs announced today are new roles.

She said eir had ended its contract with HCL because it had changed its strategy and basically wants people delivering to customers to work for eir.

Speaking in Sligo, Ms Lennon said there is no one working in customer service but by March there will hopefully be 350 people.

In Limerick, she said 40 staff from HCL will be employed by eir and a further 80 will be recruited in technical support while in Cork 160 HCL employees will be employed by eir and 200 new people will be recruited.

She said these are all new jobs in eir in the three centres.

The CEO of Sligo Chamber of Commerce, Aidan Doyle, said eir's investment in the region and 350 new jobs were very welcome in Sligo which has seen the creation of over 1,000 new jobs in the past eight months.

He said Sligo is a designated area of growth under the National Development Plan.
