Chennai, India, Apr 5, 2022 -- Zoom Video Communications has announced plans to set up its second technology centre in India, in Chennai.

The Chennai product centre is part of Zoom’s expansion plans in India and will supplement the existing tech centre in Bangalore, in addition to Zoom's two data centres in Mumbai and Hyderabad.

The Chennai facility will be led by Zoom’s global engineering teams based at the company’s San Jose, California, headquarters and the centre will closely work with them.

The company did not specify the capacity of the centre and said it is still finalising the specifics such as location, size and others.

"The size of the centre will depend on the number of people we can hire... The recruitment for the Chennai centre is under way and we have already opened up some positions," Velchamy Sankarlingam, president of product and engineering at Zoom, told TOI.

"India is strategic for us both in terms of a market for our products and as a location that supports our innovation and product development plans, '' he added.

The new Chennai centre is being planned to focus on research and development of new products including Zoom Contact Centre and technologies to build a communications platform that will mimic real-life immersive experiences for users. Zoom recently announced the launch of a contact centre -- call centre -- software that helps manage all aspects of customer service into a single easy to use tool.

"Zoom is today a preferred video platform for collaboration and connection used by millions of businesses and people around the world. Our unwavering focus on listening to our customers has helped us build a secure and reliable platform that addresses their continuously evolving requirements," Sameer Raje, general manager & head of India and SAARC Region at Zoom, said.

"We are excited to launch the second technology centre and tap into India’s top-notch talent which will help us deliver a best-in-class communications experience for our customers as we move to a hybrid world of business."
