PCS Members in HGS Determined to Win their Dispute

#contactcenterworld

Liverpool, UK, Nov 24, 2022 -- PCS union members working for Hinduja Global Solutions (HGS) in Liverpool have so far taken 4 weeks of strike action in a dispute over pay and conditions and are ready to take more action if the employer fails to improve the offer.

PCS members employed by HGS to run the contact centre and back-office functions of the government’s Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) began their strike in September after the employer offered a 3.25% pay rise, with new starters coming in on as little as £9.75 per hour.

One of the main union demands is around paying the Real Living Wage. Despite HGS reporting to the workforce they were looking at introducing the Real Living Wage months ago we have seen no progress on this.

HGS has failed to improve on its 3.25% pay offer, leaving most staff well below the Real Living Wage of £10.90 per hour. The dispute is also around the company’s failure to pay decent levels of sick pay, holidays and paid breaks.

The company is acting like a bargain basement outfit giving absolute basic terms however the Hinduja Group is owned by the richest family in the country who topped The Sunday Times Rich List in 2022, with more than £28.4bn. Paying a Living Wage of at least £10.90 per hour is well affordable to this business. During this cost-of-living crisis this is the least workers should expect.

A meeting has been set with ACAS for 22 November which we hope will see a resolution to the dispute if the employer is prepared to offer more. However, members are clear they are prepared to take more strike action before Christmas if these talks don’t deliver a decent pay rise.

Support the PCS members by using our e-action to tell HGS to listen to its workforce.

As members prepare for a fourth round of strike action, we are putting out an appeal for financial support for these low paid staff to continue their dispute. Any financial assistance you can give will be greatly appreciated.
