Andhra Pradesh Government Helpline for Children Sees Few Takers

Vijayawanda, India, June, 2022 -- Parents of students who failed to clear the SSC examinations are approaching private counselling centres and psychiatrists.

Childline, the government helpline to address issues related to children, has so far received a poor response from children on SSC results and child rights activists say this indicates a lack of awareness among children.

When contacted on Tuesday, Ramesh, coordinator of Childline Vijayawada, said they have not received calls from children on depression caused by failure in the exams.

However, psychiatrists and clinical psychologists received many cases of depression and suicidal tendencies in students who failed the exams.

Meanwhile, the NTR district administration has decided to take up motivation sessions for students of government schools who failed the exams. Collector Dilli Rao directed officials of the education department to contact the parents of these students. "We are conducting special classes at schools for students who failed class X exams, starting next Monday," Dilli Rao said.
