Amaravati, India, May 19, 2022 -- Keeping the works in Jagananna housing colonies on fast track, the state government has decided to open a dedicated call centre to address grievances of beneficiaries.

The state government is keen on completing the majority of the 15.6 lakh houses in the first phase before the arrival of monsoon. The government directed project directors to play a proactive role to ensure grounding of all sanctioned houses on war-footing.

The project directors have been asked to take support from ward and village secretariat staff to create awareness among beneficiaries to launch the work.

The state government recently increased cement quota to each beneficiary from 90 to 140 bags. The entire cement is being supplied at subsidized price of 250 per bag against the market price ranging between 350-400 per bag.

The cabinet sub-committee also held discussions with cement companies and advised them to provide adequate stock to the housing programme. The ministers observed that insufficient supplies from cement companies were delaying the housing works.

The housing beneficiaries were also raising several other queries before the legislators during the ongoing Gadapa-Gadapaku programme seeking support to complete the construction works.

The state cabinet decided to grant 30,000 additional financial assistance in addition to the original unit cost of 1.8 lakh. "It is true that beneficiaries are struggling to manage the costs as they might be required to spend at least 50,000-1 lakh in addition to the amount granted by the government. The beneficiaries should also consider the fact that the government spent close to 7-10 lakh to grant them plots," said a senior official.

Housing minister Jogi Ramesh reviewed the progress of the housing project with the district officials in the secretariat and asked them to expedite the first phase work.

He asked the officials not to handle the housing works in a casual manner as it was a prestigious project of the chief minister.

"We are not constructing the houses. We are constructing villages and towns. We are contemplating to recognize the new housing colonies as new panchayaths or municipalities after the completion of the housing units," said Jogi Ramesh.
