Sigma Connected Unveils New Community Foundation with Charity Donation

Western Cape business outsourcing company Sigma Connected has launched its new Community Foundation which will see R20,000 donated every quarter to local charities and good causes.

The company, which offers customer contact services in multiple sectors from its offices across Western Cape, has launched the new initiative in a drive to further support local communities – with its employees having a direct say in where donations are made.

The first charity to receive funding from Sigma is The Haven Night Shelter, a Kensington-based charity which was set up in 2020 during the Covid pandemic to support homeless people. The charity has received R10,000 which will help to run its shelter by giving homeless people in Cape Town a place to sleep, access to food, showers and toilet facilities.

Bevin Sandras, Director of International Operational Delivery South Africa, Sigma Connected said: "The launch of the Sigma Community Foundation in South Africa is the next step in our work to support local communities in Western Cape. It follows a hugely successful model we have in the UK where it allows our staff to nominate charities which they feel make a difference to people’s lives.

"I think it’s a great way to give something back, but also to charities and good causes which mean so much to our staff. The Haven Night Shelter is a perfect example of that, especially as a large number of our own staff come from Kensington. In the past two years it has helped hundreds of homeless people in Cape Town and I hope our donation will help the team continue to provide a service people have come to rely upon."

Nicole Pillay from Sigma Connected, who nominated the charity, commented: "I am fortunate to live close to the charity and see the big impact it has made as it helped support the rising number of homeless people. I am delighted that they got selected to receive the funding and it is a humbling experience to see Sigma help give something back to the area where I live."

Denise Damon, manager at The Haven Night Shelter added: "We are currently supporting 80 homeless people and this wonderful donation from Sigma Connected will go a long way to helping them.

"We rely so much on donations and goodwill and the money is being put towards buying 3 new bunk beds so as many people as possible can have a temporary shelter and a good night’s sleep.

"Since the Covid pandemic hit we have seen the number of homeless people in Cape Town rising so any help for our work to reintegrate and support them is wonderful."
