HGS Canada Shutting Liverpool Call Centre
Liverpool, NS, Canada, Jan 16, 20202 -- The HGS Canada call centre in the Liverpool Industrial Park has decided after 13 years in operation has decided not to renew its lease with the Region of Queens Municipality, Mayor David Dagley said in a news release Wednesday.
"Three years ago, the municipality reduced the company’s rent to nearly half of what is was at the beginning of the lease in order to help with cost efficiencies in light of a reduced workforce by the company," Dagley said in the statement.
The 32,000-square-foot building owned and leased by the municipality and has been a call centre for two different companies since its inception, according to the municipality.
HGS leased half of the space in the building but because of the restrictions in its lease, "the remainder of the building was virtually unleaseable," the municipality said.
"With the ending of this lease, the municipality is now focused on leasing the entire building to maximize its benefits in terms of both use and local employment growth. Our staff are currently in discussions with other entities to locate potential future tenants," Dagley concluded.
