Railway Police Introduces Helpline Number to Report Stolen Belongings

#contactcenterworld

Gandhinagar, India, Feb 2, 2023 -- The Western Railways is taking action to address the issue of theft on trains. In response to the high number of reported thefts, the Railway Police is introducing a helpline number for passengers to report lost or stolen luggage during their train journey. Currently, passengers must wait until the next station to report these incidents, giving thieves ample opportunity to escape.

According to Railway Police sources, many people choose not to report stolen baggage if it doesn’t contain valuable items. However, with the introduction of the helpline, passengers can quickly get in touch with the police to report the crime.

A majority of train-related offenses occur in Surat and Ahmedabad. These crimes include bag lifting, cell phone theft, pickpocketing, and chain snatching. The Ahmedabad Division reported 176 such offenses in 2021, while 298 were reported in 2022.

The most popular railway stations in the region are Ahmedabad, where the majority of trains stop, and Surat, a popular destination attracting visitors from across India. Gangs from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra are known to frequently participate in these crimes and target passengers on the Karnavati Express, Rajdhani Express, and Shatabdi Express.
