Lafayette Call Center Closing; 147 to Lose Jobs


Lafayette, IN, USA, July, 2019 -- A Lafayette call center is closing its doors, leaving 147 people without a job. California-based Alorica Inc. sent a letter to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, notifying the agency of the closure.

Alorica is a national company that provides customer service representatives for a variety of industries. The letter to DWD states the facility is closing the Lafayette site permanently due to "business needs."

The letter indicates the facility will close between September 27 and October 31.

Most of the jobs are customer service representatives. Alorica also has an office in Indianapolis.

The letter is required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. WARN is a U.S. labor law that mandates employers with 100 or more employees to provide a 60-day warning of a plant closing or mass layoffs.
