Dundalk, Ireland, Feb 1, 2023 -- Concerns are growing for the future of PayPal's call centre in Dundalk.

The online payments provider announced that it's cutting 2,000 jobs - 7% of its global workforce.

President and CEO Dan Schulman said that while the company has made progress in rightsizing its cost structure over the last year, it needed to do more.

He added that the job cuts would happen over the coming weeks, with some divisions impacted more than others.

PayPal employs more than 2,000 people in Ireland including 996 in Dundalk.

Local Sinn Féin TD Ruairí Ó Murchú says it's a major blow to the workers after 172 redundancies there last year.
