My insurance experience started when I joined Santam's underwriting department in 2001. My duties involved the underwriting of short term insurance risks. I completed my COP, in-house training, the Unisa once-off FAIS examination, and the FETC ST NQF4 qualification as well as several behavioral skills courses. I transferred to the training department in 2003, where I was able to share my expertise with other people in the industry. Here I trained staff and brokers (external clients) on a variety of short term insurance related courses. This consisted from basics such as Introduction to and Principles of Short Term insurance, to advanced product related training where the main focus was on Commercial and Personal lines insurance. As a trainer I was also involved in the quality assurance of the training and assessment material, so an in-depth understanding was gained even before I was involved in the assessment of the portfolios. Successes achieved in this time include the completion of my assessor's qualification and Santam's being provided the status of an accredited training service provider. Their courses were aligned with relevant unit standards. Santam was the first short term insurance company whose courses were accredited by SAQA and acknowledged by INSETA. I am proud of having been a part of this process and success story. After having achieved my assessor's unit standards in 2006, I decided to join Prior Learning Centre, in order to use my new skills and qualification.
