News : 100 Call Center Jobs Coming to Hancock County

Hancock County, TN, USA, Feb, 2018 -- Allied Dispatch Solutions LLC, headquartered in Johnson City about 70 miles east of Sneedville, is expanding. While the spec building is built out for Allied’s use – expected to take until fall 2018 – the company will occupy a temporary location in Hancock County, where it will conduct hiring and training, the news release said.

Officials made the announcement at Sneedville Baptist Church on Monday afternoon.

"This is a very special day for Hancock County and its future," Hancock County Mayor Thomas Harrison said in the announcement. "Over the last decade, hundreds of jobs have left the county and many of our residents often have to travel nearly an hour across county lines for work. That changes today with the more than 100 new jobs Allied Dispatch Solutions will bring to Sneedville. I’d like to thank all of the state and federal partners who have supported Hancock County and worked with us to improve our community with Project 95."

Project 95 is a state initiative combining Tennessee and federal resources to provide jobs in Hancock County, which ranks near the bottom of economic indicators among Tennessee counties. It’s the first county targeted in an effort to aid by 2025 all Tennessee counties designated as "distressed" by the federal government.

The Project 95 initiative is helping us take on the various challenges facing Hancock County and set it on a course for sustainable economic growth well into the future," Gov. Bill Haslam said in the announcement. "Tennessee will lead in job growth and jobs are created when companies like Allied Dispatch Solutions put capital at risk. I thank the company for establishing operations in Sneedville and creating more than 100 jobs for the hardworking people of Hancock County, bringing us closer to making Tennessee the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high quality jobs."

Hancock County, about 70 miles northeast of Knoxville, has a population of only about 6,500, and median household income around $27,000. Its unemployment rate in August 2017 was 5.7 percent, when the state’s overall rate was 3.3 percent.

The 17,750-square-foot building, on 38 acres at 1131 Back Valley Road, cost $2 million and will be leased to Allied rent-free, according to the state.

The Hancock County website says the funding came from a 2016 Community Development Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. According to TNDEC, the U.S. Department of Agriculture also helped fund the call center, while numerous state agencies are involved in Project 95, providing job development, literacy programs, substance abuse help and other initiatives.

Harrison said in July that Hancock County had lost "a few hundred jobs" over the last decade.
