News : 2-1-1 Call Center Looking to Add New Information Specialists
Bryan, TX, USA, Feb, 2018 -- The United Way of the Brazos Valley's 2-1-1 team is looking to add new people to the team to meet upcoming needs.
The service runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. At the call center for 2-1-1, a person is always ready to take your call to connect you with social services.
"We give them references so they have plenty of places that they could call for different things -- if they need emergency food, or perhaps someone's homeless or has a substance abuse issue, domestic violence issues," said Peggis Goss, Vice President of Community Impact with the United Way of the Brazos Valley.
Goss says they're looking to hire more help.

"We really need to get people ramped up for our summer busy time when there might be a hurricane or disaster that we need to cover. It's really important they get plenty of training so that they're ready for the really busy time," said Goss.
The job is part-time and pays $14 an hour. They are also taking applications for summer internships.
Maritza Hernandez has been an information specialist for a year and a half. She says people answering calls need to be ready for anything.
"Especially in the hurricane. We had 911 calls that were transmitted to us and sometimes you just never know what you get," said Hernandez.
Hernandez encourages people to take on the task because it can be rewarding.
"It's reassuring to know that there is something out there that people can always reach for and have someone here on the other line listen to them and advocate on their behalf to find these resources to better themselves and their lives," said Hernandez.
