News : 24x7' Safety Helpline Application Launched
Mohali, June 11, 2014 -- With a focus on safety of women and elderly persons, the district police, in collaboration with a private company, launched "24x7" WhatsApp helpline application at district police headquarters on Tuesday. After downloading the application, residents can communicate with the local police control room. They need not dial 100 or any other emergency number.
The application is already being used in metros like Delhi and Mumbai and in some states like MP.
Mohali SSP Inder Mohan Singh Bhatti said, "The motive behind connecting the local police with an integrated nationwide emergency service is to provide better security to residents, especially women. We chose the helpline on mobile messaging app as the use of smartphones is consistently increasing among people of all quarters."
C P Singh, head of the private company, said, "The mobile application, Smart 24x7- personal safety app, helps people connect with their near and dear ones, police, fire and ambulance services automatically whenever they find themselves in trouble or those around them."
