News : 275 People Will Lose Jobs When FirstSource Closes in Eugene
Now, nearly 275 people will be out of a job.
In September, 2015 KVAL reported on a job fair where FirstSource hoped to double its number of Eugene employees, but now, six months later, they are shutting down.
FirstSource is located on Chad Drive, inside the chambers media center in North Eugene.
We reached out for an on-camera interview, but instead they sent us this statement:
"We have been in discussions with one of our clients around some strategic changes they are making to their business and unfortunately, this will result in the site closure and loss of approximately 275 jobs from our FirstSource Group USA, Inc. business. We will work diligently to assist our workforce in finding positions both internally and in the communities where we operate."
The company's headquarters are based in India and clients vary from one location to another.
We followed up on reports the Eugene center serves Verizon Wireless.
Verizon sent us the following:
"Verizon regularly assesses its operational capabilities to ensure our customers are being cared for at a very high level, and we often shift or replace resources as necessary to maintain that standard. These changes are being made with one goal: to better serve Verizon customers."
FirstSource would not confirm that Verizon is the client.
The Lane Workforce Partnership says they reached out to FirstSource to offer job assistance. FirstSource told them they would not be closing for at least 60 days.

Still, Lane Workforce has set up a meeting with the company in the coming weeks.
"There are other call centers and, of course, we will be reaching out to them but just 270 people becoming unemployed right now, its going to be hard," said Sue Thompson, Director of Workforce Investments for Lane Workforce.
Thompson says in her experience, call centers come and go on a cyclical basis.
This comes less than a week after the announcement that Oregon's unemployment rate is the lowest it has been in 21 years.
The Lane Workforce Partnership says those in need of job assistance can visit Worksource Lane.
