News : 68 People Laid Off as Call Center in Carbondale Closes
Jackson, County, IL, Jan 15, 2015 -- A call center in Southern Illinois has ceased operations as of Tuesday, leaving 68 people out of work.
Andrea Staub, spokeswoman for NTBY, a vitamin manufacturer, confirmed the company’s call center in Carbondale has closed. She said the facility was the backup call center to the main center in New York.
She said both centers were frequently impacted by bad weather at the same time, so NTBY made the decision to keep the New York center and move the Illinois center to a place with a better climate.

Laid off workers will continue to receive salary and benefits for 60 days and will receive a severance package afterward, Staub said.
"It is always hard when you have to close a facility," Staub said. "But from a business standpoint, and the amount of calls we were receiving, we want to make sure we gave our customers the best service possible."
