News : 777 is a New South Sudan Police Emergency Dial Number
Juba, July 8, 2014 -- The South Sudan Police has graduated Police force, who will operate the emergency call centers in Juba on Monday of July 7, 2014 the Emergency Call Centers will be for the public to call when they need the police in an emergency on a 777 hotline.
This number is being tested on Monday, and it will be operational on Independence Day. 500 police officers were graduated, and they will be starting work on Independence Day.
The Minister of Interior, Aleu Ayeny Aleu spoke during the ceremony. He said the new call center is an important professional development.
"777 is going to make us among other nations who established it before, and has been one of the big progresses. Because contact is the mother of information, especially with the police it is all about prevention and detection .You cannot prevent or detect unless you have an information and how can you get that information, it is when you have such a facility, that we are inaugurating today .This 777 thing is a great revelation in our history of crime detection" said Aleu.
The Inspector General of Police Gen. Pieng Deng Kuol urged the graduates to make the new emergency call system work.
Kuol said they will have to work hard in order to win the trust of the people of South Sudan.
"So you have a very challenging mission to do, not only for the people of South Sudan, even the International Community and Regional Community. We need to win their trust .But let us show that we are ready to protect our civilians", IGP added.
The Mulugeta Abebe Country Director of United Nation Development Program said the Emergency Call Center will help the public. says 7-7-7 won't cost us anything, as it will be free to call.
"With the commissioning of Emergency Call Center the public will be able to access the police a call free number and the police will be able to respond to emergencies quickly", said Abebe.
The 7-7-7 emergency number will start working on Wednesday the 9th July, Independence.
