News : 8x8 Appoints Chief Information Security Officer and Completes FISMA/NIST Compliance Audit

#contactcenterworld, @8x8

San Jose, CA, USA, May 8, 2019 -- 8x8, Inc. (NYSE:EGHT), a cloud provider of voice, video, chat and contact center solutions, announced the appointment of Michael Armer as Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer and the completion of its third successful FISMA/NIST compliance audit by a federally certified auditor.

Armer brings over 20 years of cybersecurity and information technology leadership experience to 8x8 in the areas of data privacy, intellectual property protection, risk management and corporate cyber governance. He was most recently VP and CISO at Barrick Gold Corporation and prior to that served as the head of information security for Lam Research Corporation.

In his global role, Armer is responsible for 8x8’s corporate-wide information security management activities, including compliance, strategic planning, governance, and controls. This includes identifying, evaluating, and reporting on 8x8’s overall security performance and posture in connection with regulatory requirements, industry best practices and threat landscape.

"It’s mission-critical for organizations to keep their communications systems secure. 8x8 is a leader in providing secure cloud-based communications services," said Armer. "I’m excited to be part of a team with such a strong commitment to customer and partner data protection."

While security, compliance, and data protection of 8x8, customer, and partner information will be a primary focus, Armer will also have opportunities to provide strategic input to product development, technology roadmap and other functional areas of the company. He joins a team of certified security professionals with ten or more years of dedicated security and compliance experience.

Armer holds an MBA from the University of Southern California. He is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a member of the CISO Executive Roundtable, Infragard and the American Bar Association.

FISM/NIST Compliance

As part of its commitment to security across its offerings and business practices, 8x8 is certified as fully FISMA/NIST 800-53 rev 4 compliant. FISMA, based on NIST 800-53 revision 4, is considered the most thorough, intensive form of compliance worldwide, with more than 2,500 areas of security, compliance and data privacy.

"FISMA compliance can only be accomplished in private industry through a security-first culture, governed with sanctions, monitoring, and continuous training," said Bryan Martin, Chairman and CTO at 8x8. "Our security focus starts at the most senior levels, and we welcome Michael to the team. Under his leadership we expect even greater emphasis on this key area to ensure our customers and partners have 100 percent confidence that our systems and practices meet stringent security requirements."
