News : 911 Center Buys New 'Smart 911' Program

Altoona, Blair County, PA, USA, March 21, 2017 -- Blair County 911 is purchasing a new program that will better prepare first responders for emergencies. It's called 'Smart 911'.

The program will allow blair county residents to create a digital profile through 'Smart 911'.

Folks can sign up online and share vital information with the call center.

The user can provide the number of family members at a home, a list of medications, allergies, floor plans for the house, and even make people aware of their pets.

If someone would call 911 and is registered with Smart 911, their profile would pop up on the computers at the call center.

The call center then could relay information to the first responders or officers responding to the call.

The program is expected to be available starting in early April of this year.

We caught up with director of the Blair County 911 Center who says it could help agencies save lives .

"It gives them an extra few minutes sometimes to better prepare," said Director Mark Taylor. "They know what they're going into, not only from a public safety standpoint for the people theyre responding to but for their own safety as well."

The county is looking to purchase the Smart 911 program for a three year period.

The 911 center says they'll let residents know when they can sign up and create their online profile.
