News : All Roads Leading to Ballarat
Ballarat, Victoria, Oct 8, 2014 -- VicRoad's relocation to Ballarat from Kew is to include corporate functions and the contact centre, affecting an additional 200 jobs on top of the already-announced 400, according to the Premier, Denis Napthine.
Following the Government's decision to close the Kew site, announced in March of this year, the Premier said VicRoads undertook a detailed analysis of staffing requirements and locations.
"This analysis led to the conclusion that further corporate functions and the contact centre could be relocated to Ballarat, representing an additional 200 positions," Dr Napthine said.
"Ballarat is the best place for the organisation to move to, as it offers easy access to and from Melbourne's CBD, and it has a strong and growing ICT reputation, with the Ballarat Technology Park attracting technology-based enterprises" he said.
Dr Napthine said functions including licensing and registration, finance, human resources, administration, legal and risk would move as part of the relocation.
"Many associated senior positions will relocate to Ballarat with these divisions," he said.
The Premier said he was also committed to a strong VicRoads presence in Melbourne, with many business units currently based at the Kew offices, including the crucial traffic managements and monitoring centre, to be moved to a more modern metropolitan based facility.
